I am very pleased with this camera. It is secondhand but was kept in good condition. I find it very easy to use and I am amazed by the quality. Its useful features are at your finger tips making it easy to get the desired shot with ease.
I bought this camera when I was doing film at university, and it was spot on for everything I needed in every sense - it's easy to link to the TV either with the HDMI leads or standard AV leads, easy plug and play transfer of videos to PC/Laptop via firewire.
Another great thing about the camera is that I was able to hand it to my younger sister and it's so simple and easy to use that she was able to shoot holiday videos with no problem. Turn it on, press the red button to record, and away you go. Watching the video is jsut as easy, with the touch screen display press rewind, press play.
Its one of the best i have seen as i have got the sony fx1 and i bought this one for spare but i realised this is as good as the fx1 as infact it does exactly what ever the fx1 does.
i have now just sold the sony fx1 and bought 2 of these as they are worth it and i have saved money on it on all
my advice is if you are in to video editing or web design etc thios is the one for you
<img src="http://www.trustedreviews.com/images/article/inline/1973-3.jpg"> Yeah the sony HC1E standed out from the crowd compared to the HC3,5 and 7. The manual functions is what I was after and sure you get a button on those other camcorders but its not the same as a ring wich is full manual zoom and focus. Another thing is the look of the camera. When you look at it close up its smaller than you anticipate and the chrome shiny bits make it look professional. Another added bonus that I didnt know and they dont mention it much is that it has a touch screen LCD. So you can fast forward without clicking loads of buttons. All the menus etc are on the screen. They say this camera is lacking because it cant do night shooting very well which is correct but if you think about it you wouldn't use it for this purpose anyways and the manual functions win hands down to the bog standard camcorders. Another thing that I like is the popup flash when taking a still picture (2.97) i think.
The only problem I found was that when capturing with adobe premiere it wasn't recognized the camcorder. This is not the cameras fault it is a program bug since premiere hasn't updated to support Hi-Definition so what I did was download Sony Vegas and captured it with a firewire cable and rendered the footage out as a AVI movie file. Then I could proceed onto using premiere. Premiere does support DV resolution though so if you use the cameras HDV > DV converter premiere is able to capture however there is a drop in resolution.
Overall I recommend this camera and you won't be disappointed with your purchase as I wasn't. Am a film student so its ideal for what I need.
