Had a quick shot b4 packing it away for the kids xmas, and I have to say it is better than I expected, and I expected a lot from Nintendo. The controller is awesome, and the games look to be typical Nintendo guality (ie.very high). You have to laugh at the previous reviewer who pleads with you not to buy the wii, but rather the 360. IMHO they cannot be compared, if you want to have fun, and want to have the whole family join in and friends too, then get a wii, if you just want to invite your mates round to look at how good the graphics are in game x then get a 360, but if you love games then get both, cos they both offer something different.
Edited as I feel compelled to answer Hinwizz's criticisms.
1- Wireless controllers which need a wired receiver????? as they all do that is the point of them, the great thing about the wii is that they have added a sensor bar which is unobtrusive and can be placed anywhere meaning that positioning of the console is unimportant.
2- a poxy 512MB of internal storage - plenty for what data needs to be stored.
3 - No online game play - why not, it has a wireless connection
4- No surround sound, NO HIGH DEF, horrible controller layout and feel - so what, they only serve to give you artificial immersion into the game world, and not everybodys equipment supports them, whereas the wii controller totally immerses you in the gameplay, I was also very surprised at how natural and comfortable the controller feels.
5- it will not play CD's and DVD's - I have had a PS2 and Xbox since they came out, and have never played a cd or dvd in them, I have a great sounding hi-fi and dvd player for that as does just about every household. A games console is a games console, and that is all it should be.
Quick reply to Hinwizz.
I am really struggling to understand you, why so against the wii. Wii is not in competition with the 360 or PS3, they are in direct competition with each other the wii is aiming for something different, and succeeding very well indeed. In reply to your comments, I have owned every console since pong back in the 70's, and have enjoyed them all, and I still play the PS2 and Xbox whenever I can, (which is not very often with 4 kids). I also play a lot of megadrive, SNES and arcade games via emulator on the xbox. The kids love the eye toy on the PS2, and the wii takes that interactivity to a new level and beyond. All in all the Wii does everythin it set out to do very well indeed, and every one of your comments are ill thought out and completely unfounded, and as can be seen by others response to your comments you are making yourself out a complete fool, so I would suggest you pipe down and slink off quietly rather than embarass yourself further.
