Into The Blue

The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty and many other critically acclaimed movies are all good and there's definitely a lot of enjoyment and interest to be found in movies of that quality, but sometimes, perhaps after a hard day at work, you just need something stupid to sit down and watch. Into the Blue is a movie that fulfills that criterion in style.
The plot is slightly unimportant and nothing challenging to follow, it simply gives a vague reason for people to get into situations where there can be explosions, glorious underwater scenes and tense chase scenes. Its the kind of movie where you can sit down and eat your dinner at the same time, read through a magazine or just sitback and vegetate a little and that's a good thing on occasion.
As mentioned already, the underwater scenes in the movie are quite spectacular. I have always had a fascination with the sea and so watching a movie where the main characters get to swim around in the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas, whilst surrounded by sharks and other beautiful fish, is a special treat.
The movie revolves around the accidental discovery of a downed plane, twenty feet below the ocean's surface and packed full with millions of dollars worth of drugs. The main four characters of the show (leads Paul Walker, Jessica Alba and supporting cast Scott Caan and Ashley Scott) stumble on the plane whilst diving for treasure (yep, all a bit brainless, but if you forgive it, there's enjoyment to be had). From here several characters are under threat from their own greed which puts the whole group at the mercy of the druglords.
To finish, I'd say that if you're willing to take a chance on a simple action movie, this is worth a look. Don't expect anything clever or an experience as powerful as a Francis Ford Coppola epic, just let yourself enjoy a whole bunch of ridiculousness (if that's even a word).
