Loved interview with a vampire and this is just better

CBA writting a big long thing, so i found someone who has done it already:
(IMDB)

If vampire tales are your cup of blood, then this Goth-fest based on the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles should prove to be a satisfying experience. A veritable consortium of the undead in a contemporary setting, `Queen of the Damned,' directed by Michael Rymer, is a story of shadows and darkness, and of the unfortunate souls who dwell therein for eternity.

The vampire Lestat (Stuart Townsend), bored with a world that no longer excites him, has been `asleep' for many years; but suddenly, the sounds of that world he hears from his extended slumber change, and liking what he hears, he ventures forth to investigate. What he finds is a world filled with new sounds, a new kind of music-- driving and penetrating-- sounds that assault the senses and make him feel alive and welcome. And he knows that at long last his time has come, that it is time for him and those like him to come out into the open and face the world on their terms. Toward that end he becomes the front man for a band-- a singer and performer unlike any the world has ever known. He presents himself as a vampire, and very quickly amasses a following that extends far beyond London (where it all begins), and will ultimately take him to Death Valley, California, where he plans to give a concert that promises to be beyond anything anyone has ever seen or experienced.

Lestat is powerful, without question, but there are those of his kind who do not take favorably to the fact that he has revealed them, one of whom is Marius (Vincent Perez), a vampire powerful in his own right-- the vampire, in fact, who `made' Lestat so many years before-- and they are gathering, coming together and making their plans to meet Lestat at the concert. And they are not going for the music. But there is something else, as well: At one point Lestat has inadvertently awakened the `Mother' of them all, the most powerful of all the vampires, Akasha (Aaliyah), who is about to make her presence known to all, and especially to the one she has chosen to rule by her side as her King: Lestat. And at the concert, rest assured, Akasha will be in attendance, without fail.

Make no mistake, this is Lestat's story, and Rymer presents it amid a setting rich with atmosphere and with some exquisite moments, though his film has less bite to it than say, `Interview With the Vampire,' or `Bram Stoker's Dracula.' He sets a good pace, and there are some scenes that provide some real thrills, but overall the film isn't as soaked in menace as it could be, or as much as one might expect. In the final tally, in fact, the amount of flesh that is incinerated wins out over actual blood-letting, though there is more than a taste of gore, and more than a fair share of lips and mouths dripping with the red stuff. There's some good F/X on hand, too, especially in the sequences that accentuate the speed of the vampires, as they move and hurtle through the air faster than the naked eye can discern. It's a decent job by Rymer, but he could have put more teeth into it had he played up the alienation hinted at by Lestat; as it is, you get a sense of his detachment, but not enough to get you totally involved.

I would give this film a 9/10

Great story line that is easy to follow.Classic vampire action and effects.Excellent soundtrack.
Not the boring sequel that tries to be just like the first but a stand alone story that you will want to watch over and over again.

  Queen of the damned
Review created: 01/06/08

This film is based on the book by anne rice, however it has only taken a basic story line from the book, the book is very detailed so you can understand everything, the film is not and a lot of things have been changed. It also follows the film Interview with a vampire, but is nothing like the first one. If you can take this film on its own merrit you will enjoy it if you try to compare it to interview or the books you will be dissapointed. Very good film but if you havent read the book read it to but afteryou watch the film you ll enjoy the film but then can understand everything from the book its worth it trust me:)

  QUEEN OF THE DAMNED
Review created: 14/03/08

Not really true to the book but a likeable effort if you can bypass the obvious continuity errors and obviously not following on from Interview with a Vampire - although it should be. The acting is a little grimicing in sections but the music is great. Some scenes have been removed to tighten up the film and perhaps just as well, but they have taken a few too many bits that explain how some cast got there in the first place. The script is weak, if it wasn't taken from an Anne Rice book, it probably wouldn't have made it as far as it has. Still, it is enjoyable.

Sad reflection of a Great Book!
Review created: 18/01/08

I loved interview with a vampire and couldn't wait to watch this one. However I was so sad that I couldn't believe that Ms Rice allowed her name to be attached with such a movie! The book is great.....read the book.....don't waist your time with this movie! It is almost a B-movie and I don't mean the cute bees either!

great music, vampires are a little "camp" for my tastes
Review created: 10/01/08

Great music, adequate acting, definate massive improvement on "interview with a vampire" which this a sequel too.

I would consider this movie a classic of the "gentle vampire" era.....

Definately worth a watch or a cheap E-bay purchase.

  worth a look
Review created: 06/01/08

I have to say i do like a good vampire film and at the end of the day who doesnt .This fil was taken from a book writen by anne rice a brilliant author. But this film couldnt be futher from the book , yes it has the right charaters but it is so jumble up and doesnt really tell the proper story. But for a vampire movie and taking in to the fact that you might not have read the book .It is a good piece the special affect is to die for .Townsend plays a good lestat you wouldn't mind him nibbling on your neck , it's is also worth a look if you are an aaliyah fan as it was her last film before her tragic death .If i had to give it marks out of 10 i would give it a 7

this is a film for Anne Rice fans! Even though the film is based more on the book The Vampire Lestat it is still wonderful loads of action and blood and a good story line that helps to tie it all together the main characters are strong.
Stuart Townsend makes a good job of playing Lestat almost as good as Tom Cruise in the Interview With the Vampire. Thee is alot of good music from various genres and i bet no-one can witch it with out singing at least one of the tracks by the time it is done.!
An excellent watch!

  Queen of The Damned DVD
Review created: 04/06/07

I actually saw this in the cinema. It's appalling! But I'm afraid I'm so obsessed with Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, that I had no choice in the matter - I just had to have it.
It especially does not stand up well as it purports to be the sequel to 'Interview with the Vampire' starring Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt. That was completely brilliant and as she admitted herself (Anne Rice) it was very true to the book. No sequel was ever going to be true to ONE book (at the time there were about 9 Chronicles - there's loads more now).
However, it was left too long, and Tom Cruise didn't like it that it was Brad Pitt's film, and Brad Pitt hated making it, so..... 10 years or so later, we have to put up with poor old Stuart Townsend - not bad, but we were spoiled by now. Aaliyah plays the Queen in her last role before her death, and fits it well. The whole film was adequate in its own way, which would be about a 'C' horror film level!

  Great Film!

As everyone knows this is adapted from the popular Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles and combines element from "Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" and the word is ADAPTED, most people hate that this is nothing like the book and true there are many cruical elements left out, but what the filmmakers have done is create a wonderful fast paced rock and roll movie! i would say keep an open mind and accept that about 65% of the books have been left out and just enjoy it!
