I decided to buy it as I loved the film... whats not to like about ? very little in my eyes (ears!) Buy a copy...as a yellow submarine always goes down well !!!!!

I am replacing my vinyl collection and this was one of the records on my 'hit list'. I couldn't resist! The original 'Yellow Submarine' line up is added to by a careful selection of complimentary songs, a good value package if you haven't got them already (but I suspect you have). All in all a brilliant step back through the time warp. Now I need the movie soundtrack to complete the set. Don't look for an explanation in the liner notes, there aren't any, just pictures, very pretty though.

I was merely browsing eBay one day when I chanced upon something I didn't realise existed. Someone was selling a four track promotional CD of The Beatles' 'Yellow Submarine Songtrack' in an auction. I watched the time tick by and nobody had bid. With a couple of hours remaining, I placed a bid and sat staring at the screen. "You've won item number *******" Blimey! Two days later it arrived. An unknowing gap filled.

"Not more Beatles' stuff" she said, shaking her head in one of those 'I don't understand you' moments. No, she doesn't, but then she doesn't understand what collecting is all about. Why would I want a four track promo of the 'Yellow Submarine Songtrack' when I already have the same thing on CD, DVD, video, and 'Yellow Submarine' on CD and vinyl (both mono and stereo)? Because it's something else to add to my collection that includes numerous toys, books, snow globes, furniture, etc on the subject, that's why!

That's the thing with collecting, be it records, comics, stamps, cigarette cards, paper weights or any one of a multitude of items people have a passion for. Only a fellow collector could understand the gibbering, wide eyed enthusiasm shown when greeted by a pristine, boxed Yellow Submarine for sale at a boot fair. The same astonished drooling a comic collector would have, faced with Issue 1 of DC's Superman I suppose.

The other thing she doesn't understand is why all this stuff is displayed like the Crown Jewels. Record collectors don't play their records any more than a Corgi enthusiast gets out his models to play 'cars' on the front room carpet.

"Are you going to sell it?" is often asked? Er, there wouldn't be any point in collecting it if I did. "What you going to do with it then?" is another favourite. Nothing! "So you're just going to look at it?" Yes.

"You give that stuff more care and attention than you give to me". That's not strictly true. She's forgetting the time when I discovered her sister had a Blue Meanie Halloween Costume, complete with packaging.
