In my humble opinion this is the ultimate and best Stereophonics CD, wipes the floor with some of their later stuff. Raw and passionate with some of their most honest and well observed lyrics. Steal it, buy it, bid on it...just get it!
bought as i'm a big phonics fan,but didn't have this album. they don't do bad albums and this one isn't a let down. it's not the best as it's difficult to be better than just enough education to perform.
sounds ok im just doing this to get rid of this annoying banner on my home page !!!!!!!! why did u change the search mr ebay it is rubbish !!!!!!!!! WHY CHANGE WHEN U CAN TWEEK ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
In my opinion this is the best Stereophonics album. A Phonics fan from the start, I love the more rocky edge this album has. Later albums became a bit softer and more mellow, but the diversity of this album stays with me over 10 years later and is still an album I could listen to over and over again. Can't actually say a bad thing about it, but that is just one persons opinion and tastes vary.
I loved the c.d. and had brought it when it first came out in 97' but had recently had a lot of c.d's stolen from my car and wanted to replace them. I like cds and even though I could of down loaded it I wanted an original copy. It was in excellent condition and arrived really fast.
I have been trying to buy a new copy of this cd for ages as mine got all scratched but have been unable to find one in the shops. Was happy that i found one on ebay in fantastic condition!
right i dont say this lightly but this is one of the greatest debut ablums ever made, this is without doubt up their with oasis's def maybe but never seems to get a mention, this ablum is pure gold and contains some of the phonics most famous songs (i mean most of this album is what gets played everytime they do a live show) and contains one of the phonics best songs ever local boy in a photgraph no music collection should be without if your a true music lover you should already have this but if not take my word for it and buy it and i can assure you wont be disapointed!
IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD IT THEN BUY IT! EASY TO PICK UP CHEAPLY ON E-BAY. BELTING DEBUT ALBUM. THE BOYS KNEW HOW TO ROCK BACK IN THE 90'S - A THOUSAND TREES AND LOCAL BOY ARE CLASSICS. SADLY THE STEREOPHONICS BURNT OUT AFTER THIS LP AND HAVE NEVER COME UP WITH ANYTHING HALF DECENT SINCE. SHAME, BUT NEVER MIND, ENJOY THIS LP!
I decided to expand my cd collection & as an avid Stereophonics fan, my first thought was to purchase all there cd's. Love this one, it's one of my fave's...so you could imagine my disappoinment when no 4 was constantly skipping but apart from that everything else is great. The cd is in great condition as was the case. Received this only a day or 2 after i paid so was very chuffed with the prompt service!!
Word Gets Around is the Stereophonics' debut album; and such is the benchmark they set for themselves; many have said that they have struggled to better it. In this writer's opinion, this album is only bettered by the follow up; Performance and Cocktails. Just. Not bad for a band with 5 albums under their belt. The album kicks off with 'A Thousand Trees' which ties in with the albums title; a tale of how rumour and gossip spreads like wildfire in small Welsh villages. The song rightly says that one bad rumour (A match) can burn a Thousand Trees (People). The song itself starts off quite tame but then explodes into a fantastic live sing-along. 'Looks like Chaplin', 'Not up to you' and 'Check my eyelids for holes' are the albums more mediocre tracks, but when sandwiched between fantastic tracks such as 'Local Boy in the Photograph', 'Same size feet' and 'Last of the Big Time Drinkers' it doesnt seem to matter. 'Local Boy...' in particular is a fantastically heartfelt song about a young boy's suicide on a railway track; which when coupled with 'Billy Davie's Daughter' (About a young girl's suicide)really make you think about Kelly Jones' inspiration for these songs. It seems little welsh villages aren't always so quaint. Then there's the masterpiece of the album; 'Traffic' which flexes Jones' songwriting muscles to full extent. Who knew being stuck in a traffic jam could lead to such epiphany. The tracks are spread out such that the best ones aren't all clumped together; and credit must go also to 'Goldfish Bowl' and 'Too Many Sandwiches,' a hilariously ironic song about a wedding reception. This sprinkling of tracks make the album so much more listenable when it gets into its not so great parts. But even then, it's pretty great.
