I first heard tracks from Vapour trails on the 30th anniversary tour at the NEC in Birmingham and, to be frank, thought they were decidedly average. Ghost rider ticked my boxes though and it stuck out as one of those tracks that just work first time of hearing. I held off buying the album, which is unheard of for me, until very recently and since putting it into the cd player, have rarely taken it out. I struggle to comprehend how a band can be going for so long and yet are still able to produce new, fresh sounding music with an incredible passion and drive with apparent ease. I would certailny rate Vapour Trails as one of my all time favourite albums. A rare treat.
Rush at their best. You need to listen to the album a couple of times to appreciate how good it is. Looking forard to buying their next album , to be launched on the 1st May 2007.
VT is a return to form, an honest, raw, personal and powerful musical expression, spoken without compromise to public taste or musical trends. Its' emotions are worn on its proverbial sleeve, yet without a hint of artifice.
Geddy's vocals return to their hi-pitched glory-days, and not a keyboard is heard, not even a Moog.
Enjoy this powerful, uncompromising record from the arena-rock gods of hard, progressive rock. - MitA
