As someone who enjoyed Madonna's early output in the 80s,it was a true pleasure to revisit "True Blue" (Remastered) and after listening to the CD in my new car last August I have decided that True Blue is Madonna's best ever Album by far.
Infectious, bubbly and with 5 major hit singles the album is Patrick Leonard(Producer) and Stephen Bray's(Co-writer & Producer) finest hour.
With its slightly classical opening on "Papa don't preach" Madonna sets out her stall from the off,"Open your heart" is next with its consistent rythmm its one of the stand out tracks and was a massive club fav back in the 80s,
The next track"White Heat" features an opening from a movie and storms into "Get up,Stand tall, back up against the wall" a slower track it keeps the feel going, the next track "Live to Tell" is a Madonna Classic and is still getting regular airplay today,Madonna's voice suits the smooth groove of the track perfectly and showed that she could cope equally well with a ballad as a Dance track,
"Where's the Party" is a particular favourite of mine and is likely the best track never released as a single,it fairly lifts you off your feet and demands that you dance!I think Madonna enjoyed recording this track becasue her laughter on the track is totally spontainous pure 80s Pop at its best.
The next track "True Blue was a massive hit but is strangely the weakest on the album in my opinion, however it does enough to keep the mood up until the next track "La Isla Bonita" which again is still getting lots of airplay almost 20 years on!With its classic Latin feel, you can almost smell the breeze on the tropical Island Maddy is singing about.
"Jimmy,Jimmy" is back to party form and very reminicent of some of the tracks on "Like a Virgin" we finish the original Album tracks with "Love Makes the World go round" a great and bouncy tune that fairly rocks and finishes the album off perfectly, On this Remastered CD we also have two additional bonus tracks: True Blue(Colour mix) and "La Isla Bonita (Extended remix) of the two ,La Isla is the better track and at around 5 Mins is long enough not to be irritating but both tracks are basically 12 Inch versions of the original tracks.
Altogether True Blue is a great album and this remastered edition only enhances the work that had been lovingly out in to what I think is one of the best of the 80s.Bravo Madge!
