Troy (DVD 2004)

This is a epic film of gigantic proportions. It delivers in every way and keeps you entertained for the whole performance. The Hector - Achilles duel is one of the best i've seen on screen and causes your heart to beat faster during the scene. There is not much if anything that i dont like about this film. I would recommend this film to anyone, even more so with surround sound!

I LOVE WATCHING ORLANDO, BUYING OFF EBAY MAKES IT EASY AND CHEAPER, FILM IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS FILM BEFORE SO BUYING IT THIS WAY MEANS I CAN AFFORD TO BUY WITHOUT WORRYING.

With soaring photography that circles from above then swoops in for the action, TROY is Wolfgang Petersen's majestic presentation of the classic Greek legend.

It tells the story of an epic battle over Helen (Diane Kruger), the queen of Sparta, who is kidnapped by her lover Paris (Orlando Bloom), the prince of Troy. This infuriates Helen's husband Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson), whose brother Agamemnon (Brian Cox) convinces him to invade Troy and kill Helen. They recruit Achilles (Brad Pitt), the best warrior in Greece, whose bravery, quick feet, and remarkable swordsmanship (not to mention tan biceps, short kilts, and blond locks) have earned him a reputation that is almost as impressive as his ego. Achilles agrees to fight for Sparta, if only for the fame it will bring him. Even Achilles' mother, in a touching scene, advises him to forget mortal achievements and become a hero who will be remembered throughout history.

Along with the invasion of Troy, a series of duals must also be fought: Paris, who is heartbreaking in his lovestruck naivety, must go up against the enraged Menelaus; and Achilles must settle a score with Hector (Eric Bana), who is fiercely dedicated to protecting his brother Paris and their father, the frail king Priam (Peter O'Toole). When the war finally ignites in its massive proportions, the action is awesome. And as the increasingly dramatic events play out, TROY earns its own timeless reputation among other action-adventure epics such as GLADIATOR and SPARTACUS

Brad Pitt picks up a sword and brings a muscular presence to the role of Greek warrior Achilles in this spectacular retelling of The Iliad. Orlando Bloom and Diane Kruger play the legendary lovers who plunge the world into war, Eric Bana portrays the prince who dares to confront Achilles, and Peter O'Tooole rules Troy as King Priam.

Director Wolfgang Petersen recreates a long-ago world of mighty warships, clashing armies, the massive fortress city and the towering trojan horse.

A Must See Movie!

The DVD Troy is based on the legendary Greek mythology Achilles in Troy. I bought the DVD, as it is a rare to find great Greek stories told through motion picture.

I love the film and think it was directed perfectly; most films will have a boring battle scene, which takes up half the movie and basically bores me to death. However in the film Troy it had a short battle that kept me interested and doesn’t confuse the audience.

I think the film included everything a person wants to see in a movie, it had a valiant hero who’s heart was stolen by the unlikely young priestess, it also recaptured Achilles love for his cousin Patriclus, which in the original story was rumored to be in love with.
Achilles love for Patriclus was exactly what I wanted to see it showed Achilles as soft hearted, as he was brave and strong.

The film had a great plot, which included a short love scene, great tragedy and heroic battles. After seeing the film I really felt like I was apart of the film I was completely blown away by it, it was fantastic.

I loved the cast I thought Brad Pitt played the roll of Achilles perfectly, whenever I think of Brad Pitt I always think of his great acting roll of Achilles. However the only Actor I was not so keen on was Orlando Bloom who played Paris, I think he is a terrible actor and whenever he speaks he sounds like a half wit. However Orlando Bloom does have a look about him that makes me think he is Paris. The whole cast looked exactly how I would imagine the characters to look. I noticed the great detail the director had used within the film such as all of the main Trojan characters having brown eyes and brown curly hair then Achilles and his myrmidons (been god like and foreign) having light green and blue eyes, gold skin and blonde hair. This is how gods were described as.

My over all rating for this film is defiantly an Excellent 10 out of 10, I only wish there was more films like this one. I would like to see another Troy film with Brad Pitt in it and I defiantly want to see more Greek mythological tales in motion picture. I suggest a re-mastered Jason and the Argonauts I think people would like to see more films that are based on Mythology.

I decided to buy it because i borrowed it from my dad but didn't give it back because i enjoyed it so much soi bought a copy for myself.
I like the film because the storyline is good ('true') the acting is good. It is a well made film.

Saw half of this on TV and missed the rest so had to buy the DVD to watch the end. Great film enjoyed very much and my son will probably watch it again and again.

The Daily Mail called this "Intelligent"?! Then I must be Einstein, 'cause high brow this isn't.
The first half of the film is pretty pants - the screenplay spells out what is happening VERY CLEARLY, as if they know that lots of 14 year-old girls are just seeing it because Bradley Pitts is flexing his not-that-pumped-up bi-ceps.
Yes, It doesn't get off to a great start. Both me and the wife were exchanging glances during the first hour or so. Sure, It looks GREAT, but this is just as shallow as it gets.
It's a good thing then, that final hour really puts the pedal to the metal, even surpassing Gladiator in it's chest thumping battles and sweeping shots of GCI armies.
Pitt has been better - Seven and 12 Monketys spring to mind, but he does a good enough job. The real star is Eric Bana - good job that man, you stole the show.
And is it me, or is Orlando Bloom not a very good actor? LOTR, Pirates, a few rom-coms and now Troy....He really his just a pretty piece of wood.
All in all - Turn your brain off, turn up the volume and keep your expectations low...

my son is loves watching his grandmas copy of troy.so had alook on ebay to see if we could get our own copy. mum paid alot for hers but being a single mum with a mortgage to pay i have to look after the pennies.
the troy dvd was like brand new and it was the two disc one that shows the making of troy too! we got a definate bargin and loads of enjoyment from this dvd.no dislikes what so ever!

I live in Cyprus where original D.V.D.'s are very expensive. My son loves the film,'Troy'. when I found the original special edition for sale at such a reasonable price, I jumped at the chance to get it for him for Christmas.I found ebay quick, efficient and safe, and I will use it again in the future.

Great epic film, grea acting by some really big names, also with historical facts in, even if they have been hollywooded, the type of film you can watch and enjoy without having to think about it to much.

After watching Troy in the cinema and enjoying the film,
I thought it be a good addition to my ever growing collection of dvd's and managed to find the film at bargain price on ebay.

A very enjoyable film with superb special effects which tend to be the norm on modern re-made films.

If you not aware the film is an adaptation of Homer's great epic, the film follows the assault by the united greek forces on Troy and follows the fates of the men involved.

Achilles played by Brad Pitt plays a fare part.

All in all a good film

Thought this movie was a good film. Not as good as Gladiator or The Last Samurai but a great attempt. A good movie to have in a collection. will just keep it short and sweet :)

the dvd was excellent! A real romantic action packed film that will desensitise you into the ancient era of mystery. Finally... a film with a heart! delve yourself into this magical story. the quality of the film was spot on! no complaints about it whatsoever.

I saw this movie at the cinema when it came out. It's really the only place to see a film like this unless you have a 52" plasma on your wall!
This genre is my favourite and I had a ball seeing it again. The effects are magnificent and although computer generated 'extras' were used, it's hard to tell. The actual extras actors were believable and great to watch.
The lead roles actors were a bit light I felt, and didn't quite convince me of how the real Paris, Hector and Achilles would have been. I had imagined Helen to be much more beautiful. This lady didn't make me think that two countries would be prepared to go to war over her. Now if it had been Keira Knightly... but I guess she can't be everywhere at once. (... and I am a straight woman!)
If you take the film as intended; that it is Hollywood's version of history, then it's a riot and well worth watching. I was entertained throughout and that's what it's about.
What didn't I like? Not enough Bean in a dress!!

Well they said that Helen of Troy launched a thousands ships and who could forget the Trojan horse. This is a brilliant film and well worth having in your collection. The film has has a star studded cast including Brad Pit, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, Peter O'toole and of course we must not forget the wonderful actor Brian Cox.

Director Wolfgang Peterson brings the storey of Troy to life with battle scenes, warships and the huge trojan horse. He truly lifts the storey from long ago memories of our school days when we first learnt of the Trojan horse and lots of young girls wanted to be like Helen of Troy with two men fighting over her and mayble the young boys wanted to be heros.

Brad Pit is brilliant as the fighting hero, which you could describe as a hired killer with a no nonsense personality. Unfortunately Orlando Bloom's character is some that wishy washy and is probably best to be forgotten.

My favourite character was Achilles who was down right nasty and was going to do what ever he could to get his wife back. Achiles is a character that you either love or you hate, but nevertheless you could not help feeling sorry for the character and was played by Brian Cox who is from the United Kingdom and not America. Ok, I know what you are going to say he lives a lot of the time in Los Angeles, so I guess you could describe him as an Anglo-American.

All in all a well directed film full of wonderful camera angles, marvelous Scenery and not forgeting the wonderful actors.

I would rate this film as an A+++++++++
