This album was recorded after a grueling three month rehearsal period in a rented house in 'the valley'. The album was recorded 'live' with Frank Zappa sequestered in the bathroom with the recording equipment. After the music was all recorded the conversation sort of went :
FZ :(reportedly) OK, Don, I'll take the tapes and do some editing, and then you can listen to the finished item."
CB(Don) : It's done Frank.
FZ : No, Don, you need to mix and edit the tapes.
CB : It's done Frank.
And so it was. The record came out as a double album exactly as recorded. Cuts between tracks are just that, and the balance is random. But this record invariably makes everyones top 100 albums of all time.
Bizarre but brilliant !!
