Released in 1970 "Trespass" was the first Genesis album on the fantastic Charisma label.
This would stamp the group in the Prog Rock section and introduced us to the unmistakable trademark sound of early Genesis.
The thick chords of the Mellotron are intertwined with 12 string guitars and sometimes haunting backing vocals.
Gabriels vocals are fantastic and range from pure emotion (Dusk, Visions of Angels) to powerhouse performances on Looking for Someone and the fans favourite The Knife.
What really made Genesis stand out where the long intrumental pieces and the way the songs change (there are no verse, chorus, verse, chorus, middle 8, chorus tracks here) - No song better demonstrates this as Stagnation (my fav off this album)
There isn't a bad part to be found anywhere on this and if your buying this for the first time your in for a treat - just sit back, close your eyes and prepare for the hairs on your neck to stand on end.
This was a present for my husband a Genesis fanatic, maybe obsessive.Kevin has all Genesis albums on vinyl and has now completed his cd collection. He describes this one as "a true classic". thanks Jules xx
