The popular tomtom is now available for bikers. It fits both bikes and scooters, with a mounting kit of four pieces and a security strap to prevent it being swiped at the lights! It's waterproof and the 3.5 inch touchscreen is designed to be used by a gloved hand. Very easy to use, it really is "plug and play". You can choose to plan a route by postcode, street name or tell it to take you to the nearest petrol station! You can down load Points of interest (POI) such as Speed cameras, London congestion zones, Sainsbury's shops, football grounds etc, free from many websites, but if you want to down load a large quantity I would advise you to purchase a bigger SD memory card (512Mb will be fine) It comes with a Bluetooth headset, so you can receive the spoken instructions or speed camera warnings etc as you ride. Another bonus is the hands free mobile phone connection to the headset. When you are out on your bike it prevents you from making calls but allows you to receive them, although you can also use this unit in your car and if you do it senses this and allows you to make or receive calls and switches from glove friendly to in car mode. In summary, a fine piece of kit that gives pizza delivery boys no more excuses!
i brought the tomtom rider as i ride motorcycles and it just what i needed it as all i need when abroad it was good value and in excellent condition the seller was very helpfull and i am very happy with the tomtom thank you
i bought it because it was the market leader and most sat navs you see on bikes are tom tom's. the mount is easy to fix to your bike and very adjustable.thesystem its self is easy and fool proof to use with loads of features
I upgraded my car TomTom to a TomTom Rider, so that I could use it on my motorbike as well. As I found my Tom to be an essential piece of kit, and with the summer coming, and petrol going up, it seemed sensible to get a fully waterproof version, so I could use my bike more.
Easy to follow on the bike, easy to mount on handlebars and easy to wire to the bike battery (and I'm a girl!), it has delivered as I hoped and has been reliable too. It conveniently swaps to car/bike mode automatically and charges in my cigarette lighter whilst driving in the car (I don't understand the comment left earlier saying that it wouldn't charge when the flap was open). Only drawback is the on/off switch which is quite hard to depress - however it's not rocket science and is definately not putting me off using the system. I'm using it without sound at the moment on the bike, but have the earpiece to use with bluetooth or to attach to the inside of my helmet. Following the directions is very clear as is.
The Tomtom Rider is very user friendly, with lots of useful features for bike riders, the bluetooth works very well even for sending and receiving text messages, the only down side is that there is no speaker on the unit for when you are in your car with it, you will have to use a bluetooth head set like when you are on your bike. Other than that its a great piece of kit. I bought one off ebay which had a european sd card and other mounting brackets, these are extras if you buy new. TTR V1 shouldnt be anymore than 150-200, second hand TTR V2 anywhere from about 180-250 max for second hand.
tomtom rider is the easy way to get to you destination with out stopping your bike every two miles or so to look at the bloody map, this has made it so much easier for getting to detinations hassel free.top bit of kit.just one draw back ive found so far is that you cant charge it in the car and use it at the same time, once the little door is open at the bottom where the charge port is,it doesnt do operations.unless you use the bike cradle in your car aswell not a big issue but a problem never the less.well worth having though
as expected .pretty darn good........need to assemble various fittings to fit to bike but not difficult the delivery was very prompt and item very well packed
I bought the Tom Tom Rider as I was using a PDA with GPS receiver solution and I wanted something a bit tidier.
The unit itself is fantastic. Extremley well made and very easy to set up. It found a signal straight away and is very easy to use with gloves on. You can also connect it to your phone via bluetooth and take calls on the move via the bluetooth helmet mounted mic and speaker.
You can also store music on it for those boring motorway hacks.
I haven't really used it for any serious distance travelling but have no quaims about doing so.
My TT was bought for me last Christmas my partner was assured that they fit most motorcycles…..yes they do only ones with tubular handlebars sports & sports tourers no chance I had to buy an ram ball kit for it to fit. After the first month it started to play up screen freezing up, turning it self off whilst on the move, and not recognising the SD card. It has been in for repairs 3 times the last time they discovered it was the SD card was at fault and replaced it with a new one which was way out of date and the customer services are virtually impossible to get through to. Eight of us went touring France & Spain last month two with TT’s and one had a Garman mine packed in on the third day it decided to not recognise the SD card again! The other TT packed after the first day the thing froze and would not reset… oh and the Garman worked fine the entire trip.
dont buy one of these .they have been withdrawn from sale by tomtom. when i contacted tomtom after mine stopped working (after 4 months use)and asked why they had withdrawn them from sale there reply "this is classified information" i am now sueing them and i know of many other bikers who are doing the same.
The Tom Tom is very good but the company that sold it are the PITS as I am having no luck getting in touch with them as they have had their phone cut off
