This is very heavy film with a good story line,i watched clips during a Holy Week Church Service,it was used as part of the sermon, and i found it very interesting so i bought the DVD, parts of the story is true and can be traced well on the internet,i would recommend to anyone to watch it .
I loved this film so much! Its very realistic and it really feels like you are in the camp with them. And I was thinking about the film one week after i had seen the film the first time.
I really recomend everyone to se this film, you will not regret it. Its one of the best film I have ever seen.
This film is one of the best true stories I have seen on the prisoners of the Japanese in world war two, it has many powerful scenes in it, the most thought provoking one is near to the end with the crucifix, it tells of the horrific conditions these men had to endure at the hands of the Japanese and how one man in particular got through it with his hunger for learning and teaching, Robert Carlyle gives a brilliant performance as well as Kiefer Sutherland who plays the loud mouthed American, Ciaran McMenamin plays the part of Earnest Gordon whome the story is based on it, does not fail to stir up emotions of "how" and "why" and perhaps a little of thank god it could not happen to me!! I can guarantee after watching this film you will have a greater knowledge of what these men endured, but most off all a great respect for their courage. A must watch film.
The movie is an outstanding and realistic betrayal of Prisoner of War camps in the 2nd world war. Emotions flow easily as you are right there with them. It is definately a collectors items of best films if you are into War movies like myself. Highly highly recommended.
