I've been a long time fan of Bon Jovi, going back to when Slippery When Wet was their then current album. Although 'These Days' (sorry) they might not be achieving the heights they managed with Slippery and New Jersey they can still pen a fine tune and, having seen them in 2006, they can put on an excellent show drawing from their now quite large back catalogue.
With such a stock of tunes to draw from it's not too surprising that a retrospective album should come out. A greatest hits collection? Already done that with Crossroads (which cheekily included a Jon Bon Jovi solo song) so maybe a live album? Well yeah, please. Perhaps with an accompanying DVD? Sadly not, what we instead get is a reworked collection of songs from their days gone by. In itself an intriguing concept - something Anthrax managed with Aplomb when they re-recorded Belladonna-era songs with John Bush on vocals - but in this instance not brilliantly executed.
Not one reworking improves on the original version and while some are tolerable, others simply make you yearn for the version you're used to in place of the sometimes barely recognisable versions on this album. It would be one thing for a covers band to mess up a classic but to do it to your own songs?
All in all this still has a curiosity factor attached to it and might be worth getting at eBay prices (or downloading - from a reputable legal source obviously) to satisfy that and also for completeness' sake but don't expect to be listening to it too often.
Excellent album, one of his best! The beat of this album I think makes some of the tracks better than the originals. I've lost count of how many times it's been played already and I'm sure it'll be played a lot more too!!
Well, I`m not a huge fan of Bon Jovi. I bought that CD from one main reason: it`s extremely well produced. Honestly speaking is one of the best recorded acoustic albums in my collection. Deep & short bass, amazing music scene, excellent high-midrange and high frequencies, outstanding dynamics... Imagine all of that combined with all best songs by Bon Jovi - this makes that CD a "must have" not only for Bon Jovi enthusiasts. If you enjoy listening to highest qulity CD's and disdain mp3 - don`t hesitate to buy this album.
what a really great cd for any bon jovi fan,a really laid back album for any collection,i heard a track driving home one day and decided that i must get a copy of the album, its one you feel you must keep playing over and over.
As a huge BON JOVI fan myself,i thought this album was a far cry away from the old era of the 80s and 90s when he rocked the world. But i think he must be mellowing out in his old age ( as we all are really lol ) But having listened to it,it is the same old classics but with a twist as the album denotes. Buy this album, sit back and reminise back to the old days when you were younger. FANTASTIC ALBUM-KEEP IT GOING JON XX
A brilliant take on the Bon Jovi Classics - just great chillin' music that you can play / sing along to in those more mellow moments. I am on my second cd as both my wife and I fight over who's car this cd is in . Well worth a listen
As a Bon Jovi fan from their early days to their music in the early 90's this CD brings about fresh alternatives to their classics. Most of these versions do the trick - alernative, mellow and refreshing. One or two for me doesn't quite make the mark. But the cd is worth it it you want something different from Bon Jovi-clearly very different takes to the classic rock numbers we all know and love.
I bought this purley as a Bon Jovi fan. Some cd's though you often dont like until you've listned to it a few times but with the old classics remixed and mellowed out i loved it from the start. One that ill never forget.
