For anyone who was around when Jusuf Islam was Cat Stevens, this is memory lane! Most of his best known songs are on it, and, for me, hardly a track I don't like. The acoustic guitar and his way of singing give it a 'folky' feel, and although some of the arrangements are very dated and mid-sixties it is a great, gentle album. His lyrics are like poems, even some of his more commercial numbers like 'Matthew and Son' - which is not one of my personal favourites. It features a couple of songs from the soundtrack of a very hippie-age film 'Harold and Maude', which I saw in the early seventies, and they are worth a listen. I hadn't realised until I read the notes with the album that Cat Stevens wrote 'The First Cut is the Deepest' which is an amazing song and became a huge hit for Rod Stewart, others have covered it too. The only songs on the album which Cat didn't write are 'Another Saturday Night' by Sam Cooke and the classic 'Morning Has Broken', a hymn by Eleanor Farjeon. 'Moonshadow', 'Wild World' and 'Where do the Children Play?' are all songs everybody should listen to at least once in their lives - but they'll probably want to hear more than that! I am sure you can tell I like this album very much and I am thrilled to have rediscovered it after so long. Love and peace!
Every track is great on this CD, well worth adding to your CD collection. Some songs have been re-released by other artists, which you will probably recognise. Others just ones you know and might have not heard for years.
I bought it as I had the vinal back in the 80's, brought back many memories. This CD is "The Very Best"
Cat Stevens wrote and recorded some fantastic songs before his conversion to Islam. All his hits are here, and they still sound fresh today. Music's loss was Islam's gain. Well worth a listen to.
I was wanting this Cat Stevens CD for so long, not dissappointed at all fantastic buy, cheaper than shops. ist class service to my door. NO COMPLAINT WHAT SO EVER.
A great collection including some of his lesser known great bits. Cat Stevens is, in my opinion, one of the few really great songwriters whose music never loses its brilliance.
I have always liked Cat Stevens and his LPs were among the first I bought. Now I no longer play vinyl and was pleased that this compilation was available on CD so I could remember what it was I enjoyed about his words and music. It has stood the test of time and is still worth buying. It is also interesting to hear his original versions of songs which have subsequently been covered by all kinds of people, including Boyzone and Rod Stewart. If you are of a certain age and remember these songs from your teenage years,or if you are younger and just want to see what your parents are raving about - BUY THIS! You won't be disappointed.
I decided to buy this CD When I saw a program on Cat Stevens, A few of his old tracks were played, This triggered happy memories and I wanted to feel that feel good factor and positive vibes that come from Cats Stevens words and voice.
The CD was excellent and in great condition. I bought it after watching a documentary on Cat Stevens and remembered the great songs he had written. I bought it off ebay as I always enjoy the chance of a bargin and have not had many bad experiences so far.
I love this album beacuse it reminds me of being young, free and single. I played a lot of the tracks from LP's belonging to my brother. To see them all on one album was a must for me and I have very much enjoyed reliving my miss spent youth.
This is a Brilliant Compilation Album By Cat Stevens. I decided to buy the CD as my mother has all his Albums and I wanted his Hits on CD format for a present for her.
