David Bowie - The singles collection

If you don't own Bowie's albums covered by this era, this collection is a must. As it's a compilation album there is not a bad track on it. Most Excellent.

This is a collection of some of the most diverse songs ever written by anyone.Bowie is an exceptional and original artist who can move with the times and create mind blowing music. The songs are a small representation of a genius who over the years has written some phenomenal tracks.A must have for any music collection.

  Excellent compilation
Review created: 19/02/08(updated 19/02/08)

This has all of David Bowie's classic singles spanning the years 1969-1987, from 'Space Oddity' through to the late 1980s ('Absolute Beginners').

A great introduction to David Bowie if you haven't got any of the original albums already, as all the best tracks from the classic Bowie albums from the early 1970s onwards are included here. Every 'era' is covered, from the glam rock halcyon days of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars, the Thin White Duke, the collaboration with Brian Eno (during the years 1977-79), up to the late 1980s.

There are other Bowie compilations available, (2002's 'Best of Bowie' contains many of the tracks here). Apart from the fact that there are no tracks from the 'Man Who Sold The World' album (of which the title track could have been included), this is probably the best of all the Bowie compilations available.

The track sequence is good, and none of the tracks are edited - 'Golden Years', 'Fashion', 'Ashes to Ashes' etc are in their full-length album form. Other classic tracks on here include Bowie's collaboration with Queen, 'Under Pressure', and the original version of 'Fame' (in place of the 1990 remix of that track). In addition to that some perhaps lesser known cuts such as 'Alabama Song', 'Beauty and The Beast' are here too, and the closing track 'Day In, Day Out'.

37 titles in all. You won't be disappointed. Shame its not around on vinyl, but all the songs are digitally remastered. Classic Bowie, so do yourself a favour, go for it!

I bought this CD over a month ago now, at first i thought that the seller was excellent, i got a delivery within days of my paypal goingt through, unfortunately however, i was sent the wrong product.
I got in contact with this seller and i immediately sent the wrong product back, and anticipated the arrival of the CD i had bought.
Two weeks later however, the item had not been delivered. I contacted the seller about this problem and asked for a refund if i was not going to receive the item, as of yet i have heard nothing from the seller and am very dissatisfied with the service.
I do believe that had i received the correct item as soon as i received the wrong one, i would've been extremely happy with this seller.

This CD is a very good collection Bowie's best known songs, and as someone else has said - great for listening to in the car.
The only negative thing about it is it only goes up to 1987, which is fine if you are looking for a greatest hits, but for those looking for a more complete singles collection, they are best off with "Best Of Bowie (2002)" since this covers his more recent hits, "Jump They Say", "The Hearts Filthy Lesson", "Hallo Spaceboy", "Little Wonder" etc, as well as the classics from his commercial peak in the 70s and 80s found on this album.

But for those strictly looking for the popular and well-known songs, and don't mind chopping off the last 20 years of his career, this is definitely the best option.
On here you will find essentials such as "Space Oddity", "Ashes To Ashes", "Heroes", "Under Pressure", "Let's Dance", "Changes", "China Girl", as well as the full unedited versions of "Young Americans", "Diamond Dogs", and "Fashion".

This happened to be my first David Bowie album, back in 1996, and for anyone curious about his career, this CD illustrates it very well indeed. This CD is also ideal for parties (particularly 70s and 80s parties), and for people who are after the big hits.

All in all, a very good listen and well worth a couple of quid on eBay.

I bought it to hear Space Odyssey, which did not disappoint, and have enjoyed hearing old familiar tracks again from my teen years! (25 years ago....)
Good production and array of tracks. Even some I did not know, but a very good collection spanning Bowie's career. Would recommend.
