THIS IS AN EXCELLENT FILM.WITH ANGELA LANSBURY AS GOOD AS EVER.IT IS A LOVELY STORY,WRITTEN BY ROSAMUNDE PILCHER.THERE IS NO MURDER,SEX OR BAD LANGUAGE.ITS A PITY THERE ARE NOT MORE FILMS MADE LIKE THIS.I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT.NOW I'M GOING TO READ THE BOOK,I HOPE I ENJOY IT AS MUCH.
I love this book and was looking forward to seeing the film. I enjoyed the film too though I was amazed at one of the changes they made to the story. In the book, it makes it very clear that Penelope, the main character was very much in love with Richard, the American major she met in Cornwall during the war, and she was prepared to leave her husband to be with him after the war, but tragically Richard was killed in the war, so she stays with her husband. For some reason, in the film, they changed this, he wasn't killed but she stays with her husband anyway and when she goes back to Cornwall years later, she happens to meet up with Richard by chance. This was the only thing really which spoiled an otherwise very enjoyable film. There were other smaller changes from the book, but these did not spoil a great film.
