Frank Zappa - The Perfect Stranger (Boulez Conducts Zappa) (CD 1998)

Gut vacuum-cleaner Blaue Reiter poetry unt instrumantelmusic, from America. I sat bolt upright and enjoyed the Joycean flow of ideas of an artist taking the piss out of our reality! Strange, it doesn't work on a programmatic basis of the visual being replicated by the sonic, but then the match is perfect and stretches the ludicrous to new explorations, much like Schoenberg who, of course, is dead! Zappa's tribute to Boulez here is no pale praise. I was curious and needlessly feared my inherent snobbishness, re 'classical music'.
I was surprised Boulez should trifle with 'the girl in the magnesium dress' as what's sauce fur ze goose ist sauce fur ze gander, and zo she would be poisoned too! But who cares? It's all good theatrical fun and the theatre orchestra is going into hyperdrive. I loved the beautifully graded harmonies
which reminded of Mozart's Symphonies for Wind Instruments. Great CD.
