It is a real shame that Hollywood and Gibson take history and turn it on its head. While the movie had some good, even excellent moments, it was more an action movie than a historical movie. This is a real shame because people will watch this and think that is how the Americian Revolution was.
There's enough story, explosions, fights, drama, love, etc. to entertain you. Never gets too slow, but you do catch yourself thinking they could of cut 15 minutes from it and lose nothing!

Some things are worth fighting for...
Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) distinguished himself in the French and Indian Wars but now lives in peace with his seven children on his sprawling South Carolina plantation. The horrors of conflict come back to haunt him, however, when his headstrong eldest son Gabriel (Heath Ledger) defies his orders to join the American army. Unwilling to get involved himself, Benjamin reluctantly joins the fight when second eldest son Thomas (Gregory Smith) is killed in cold blood by sadistic British officer, Colonel Tavington (Jason Isaacs). Determined to protect the rest of his family and sister-in-law Charlotte (Joely Richardson) from harm, Benjamin takes up arms alongside his patriotic son Gabriel, leading a brave militia into battle against the overwhelming English army.

Iam a great fan of historical films and this is a really good example. It has a great story line with all the added emotions of humour, wit and tragedy. The story revolves around a family unit and so you get to know the characters well. Although some of the sub plots are perhaps unlikely they add to the atmosphere of this film. I have had this film for a long time on video but as I no longer own a vcr I decided to buy it on dvd. It is a film I can watch over again.

I am a fan of mel gibson so am slowly replacing my videos with dvds, i found the delivery very quick and the dvd in great condition. soryy its taken so long but have benn busy working and away on holiday.

i bought the dvd for my son he had to write an essay about it for his summer report i had been unable to buy it anywhere else cheap enough it was cheaper on ebay than to buy it in the shops the dvd was sent first class post and within two days of paying for it i had received it my son has now finished his report and can now enjoy the rest of the holiday many thanks

Had this film on video, loved it - action all the way - although can be a little gory in places. Great story line aswell. Saw DVD on e-bay and won bid. So thrilled. Would recommend film A*.

The PatriotI bought this for my husband who loves action, adventure, historical, war and sci fi entertainment. He sat enthralled through out the dvd. I knew he would love this film as we have the film on video and it has been watched many times. The main reason for buying the dvd was so he could keep it in his collection and watch it ad lib. As it is an older dvd I knew I would get it on ebay.
