Always loved one foot in the grave, Victor Meldrew reminds me of my dad! (sorry dad, but he does).
Some of Richard Wilson's one liners are fantastic, and could only be delivered by a class actor such as him.
Had most of the videos of the series but have either worn them out or have been slightly chewed up by a hungry old VCR. The quality going from VHS to DVD speaks for itself.
The complete series also has the Christmas editions as well, especially the one with the garden gnomes!
If you liked One foot or you know someone that does, buy them the complete series and then you won't have to get them any more!
As anyone who had seen this series would expect, this is a classic collection to adorn anyones top shelf, to be brought down and inserted into the DVD player on those rainy days spent indoors with a cup of tea and hobnobs. The comedy is pure genius, with Victor Meldrew's very own dry cynicism pervading every cranny and the ever-patient, suffering Margaret holding it all together! It's cringe-worthy to say the least, made even more unbearable as it somehow portrays how we see ourselves in the retirement years to come as we grow older and become Victor. We all have someone we know whom is already showing the inevitable signs so indiginous of Victor, and it's only a matter of time before we all will be uttering the phrase, "for the love of God", or " I don't believe it!!".
We bought this DVD so that we could have a lasting record of this unique series, to be watched over and over again, never tiring, always a good chuckle.
i honestly dont have a bad word to say about o.f.i.t.g. its suberbly written, acted, casted. the thing that makes it so funny is that you can belive and relate to the disasters that constantly bombard victor and those around him. there are millions of old men just like victor(richard wilson) who are funny without trying to be, my girlfriends late grandfather to name but one. in short the show appealed to everyone and could be touching and funny at the same time. the casting of angus deaton as victors next door neighbour was genius as some of the most hilarious lines were his. i only wish the bbc hadn't ended it when they did.
No matter what your sense of humour, you cannot help but laugh at this excellent classic British Comedy.
The story is set around a retired couple, Victor Meldrew (played by Richard Wilson) and his long suffering wife Margaret (played by Annette Crosbie). Victor is a moaning old man and everything he does either backfires on him or causes chaos.
The plots are greatly enhanced by the characters who play the neighbours and friends of the Meldrew's including the ongoing war with his neighbour played by Angus Deaton.
This comedy is completely timeless and can be watched by all ages, its just good clean fun, on-par with Faulty Towers and other british classics - believe me it will have you rolling in laughter from end to end.
I highly recommend the box set of all 6 series and extras, that way it works out much cheaper but you get the all important christmas specials too
...Let's face it, we all loved Victor Meldrew and probably harboured a secret desire to be not unlike him when we got old ourselves. It is 8 years since the last series of One Foot in the Grave left our TV screens for good, after 11 years as one of the most dominant sit coms we have ever produced. Here you get the lot from the begininng to the end and with every Christmas Special to boot, Richard Wilson gives a classic performance as Victor and Annette Crosbie, as his long suffering Wife, Margaret is equally sublime. In spite of all the insanity and moaning, there is still something uniquely comforting about the Meldrews and ebay offers the best prices on this box set that I have seen!
What can I say except that these DVD's will always have a place next to my Fawlty Towers collection! Having the complete collection including the Christmas Specials means that I know I haven't any missing! DVD is so much more enjoyable to watch than video tape.
A grumpy old man who says and does what most people wish to do regarding bad service and similar everday occurences. Unfortunately he always seems able to end up doing something disagreable; hilarious.
I purchased this item as my partner is particularly fond of the programme and as he is seriously ill with cancer, thought it would cheer him up. Item never received. Money was sent on time despite the seller putting negative feedback that money sent late so sellers beware! - which I think he has a cheek bearing in mind that he went on holiday for two weeks immediately following my winning the item and I had to wait three weeks before he advised me that he had sent the itme.
