The special effects changed film making forever, the story, although nothing sparklingly original in sci-fi and cyberpunk circles, was carried off in such a brilliant manner it is the most convincing sci-fi film I've seen since Dune (1984, David Lynch) and the original Terminator film.

As far as the actual acting goes it did suit Keanu Reeves pretty well, although his dialog does let him down on occasions but in some ways it reflects the 'panic - I'm feeling a little lost' element of his character Neo/Thomas Anderson. The support is fantastic, Laurence Fishburne as Neo's mentor, Morpheus, and Hugo Weaving as the insidious and evil Agent Smith are supreme in their roles carrying off their dialog with great aplomb and really adding atmosphere for the film. Carrie-Anne Moss carries off her part well, being a good balance of looks and brawn. The sets and cinematography are also fantastic as are the cityscapes, provided by The City of Sydney Australia.

The choreography and action in the film is unparalleled and helped widen the appeal of what might have been a slightly cliquey film had it not been carried off right. As it is the mix of cyberpunk style black clothes, cool sunglasses (I especially liked Morpheus's clip-on-the-nose ones) and huge black boots and the Kung-Fu fighting, gun totting fight scenes as well as the now legendary bullet-time effects really make this film scream to lovers of action and sci-fi alike.

All this is capped by, one might say most importantly, a great dramatic score by Don Davis (which I have just bought the CD of) and punchy metal/punk/techo soundtrack (which I have also just bought the CD of) that really conveys the mood excellently.

All in all it is, in the truest sense, a great film. If you've got the money and you love the film buy one of the special edition double-packs with the 'Matrix - Revisited' documentary DVD in. I have not seen the documentary personally but have it on good authority that it is a really nice addition. If you have not seen the film yet and like the sound of it prepare for stomach churning edge-of-the-seat action that will have you sweating right until the final scenes.

A must see movie for any Keanu Reeves fan.

A dazzling set of graphics, a great story line and a film that leaves you really thinking about whether the movie could be true.

Action packed with lots of fight scenes, coupled with an underlying "for the good of humanity" undertone.

If you havent seen it then you have been walking around with your eyes shut!

"No one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself." says Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), the earnest, elegant John the Baptist figure in the Wachowski brothers' allegorical science fiction masterpiece. Well, we'll give it a shot.

He's talking to Neo (Keanu Reeves), a blank-faced computer whizz who's about to go through the looking glass - out of the late 20th century world as he knows it, into the real, post-apocalyptic "desert of the real".

It's a reality where robots rule the planet and keep humans plugged into a virtual reality matrix, living in a dream world, while their energy fuels the machines.

Morpheus thinks Neo is The One, the messiah figure who will destroy the Matrix and resurrect humanity. Fellow freedom fighter Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) is convinced too. But Neo isn't certain, and will have to face the pernicious, powerful, Matrix meanie Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) to find out.

At first viewing, the action sequences stun, but there's more to this than the groundbreaking "bullet time" photography, or the adolescent allure of flash, black clothes and big, black guns.

Sure, "The Matrix" is almost untenably cool, but beneath the sheen there's substance. The story's a potent mix of buddhism, Greek mythology, and - predominantly - the Christian gospel.

The image of a superficial existence, where ignorant people thrive by blocking out a troublesome reality, is potent for a Western society drowning in wealth while the rest of the world suffers.

The performances, too, wow. Admittedly Reeves is gifted the perfect role - he has to look good while hitting things - but Moss is charismatic, clever and sexy, while Fishburne is monumental.

Nestling next to "The Terminator" and "Metropolis", this is one the finest sci-fi flicks ever made.

What is "The Matrix"? It's genius. And yes, we admit, you do have to see it for yourself!!

  PRETTY GOOD
Review created: 08/03/08

Stuffed full of fantasy comics, addicted to action, and steeped in digital technology, the frenetic moviemakers Andy and Larry Wachowski have done what they must--create an eye-popping, morph-mad, quasi-mythical sci-fi flick that will thrill computer nerds as it kicks serious ass. The Matrix also presumes to (ahem) think deeply--although this notion is sure to be more enthusiastically embraced by hardcore science-fiction cultists than by the rest of us. For the non-cultist, this full-tilt visual and aural bombardment is simply a lot of fun. It never lets up. Nor does it ever want to.

It Spawned a New Generation Of Movie Effects
Review created: 03/03/08

All the positive reviews already submitted say it all. Groundbreaking in terms of effects. One of the few films that haven't been overtaken by the effects being offered in newer offerings.

I like the way in which a very old story theme was made so modern.

  An apocalypse of kinetic joy.

A must-see among genre fans, especially guys in their teens and 20s, for whom the script's pretentious mumbo-jumbo of undergraduate mythology, religious mysticism and technobabble could even be a plus rather than a dramatic liability.

I would take the Red one!
Review created: 29/01/08

Absolutley the best film I have seen since in a long time. Keanu Reeves (Neo) His performance was brilliant as well as Laurence Fishburne(Morpheus). The film felt like it should have been on two disks I was so captivated. The special effects were brilliant and the story line is really quite believable. There are many things in real life (so to speak) that make you question wether we are actually living it or are we actually only living while we are sleeping. Personally I would love to be neo or at least an awoken.

Top marks from me. A "MUST" buy.

How to get an iPhone, Wii, PS3 or 360 for nothing!

The Free iPhone Guide

To get yourself a free iPhone all you have to do is follow the 3 easy steps:

Step 1 : Sign up for a free iPhone
Sign up at the link below to get your free iPhone. We recommend this free iPhone site because it's been TRIED and TESTED to work.

http://Gifts.real-incentives.com/2992 (copy and paste into browser)

You can choose other prizes like free consoles from this site too! Make sure you use a real email address. Use your real details when you sign up so that the company knows where to send your iPhone! Remember that they have been proven legitimate, so will send you your free iPhone if you do everything legitimately!

Step 2 : Try an advertiser's offer
Basically all you need to do in this step is complete one of the offers, this is where the freebie site make their money, if you complete an offer then the freebie site will recieve commission for it. So if you complete Coral which will only cost you £5 to complete, the freebie site gets £25 from Coral. The two best offers are Lovefilm Free DVD rental (rent two DVD's, keep them for about 2 days, send them back and then cancel the trial) and Coral (bet £5 on a sport). I would reccommend you do Coral as it credits in an hour and is really simple to do, Lovefilm however can become complicated and takes up to 2 weeks to credit! You can also try one of the other offers, most are gambling offers. Don't skip this step! You must complete this step to get your free iPhone!

Step 3 : Refer some friends
This part is a lot easier than it seems, especially now with free iPhone sites getting so popular. There's lots of people online who want a free iPhone too, so start referring them! You only need to get a few signups before you'll be finished. You can ask your friends or your online buddies. I already got a free PS3, Wii, and XBOX Elite without even having to ask my friends for help - there's lots of people online who want a free iPhone like you! One of the easiest ways to get a referral is to do a favour for a friend and ask them to sign up in return. That way, you both can get a free iPhone!

Basic rules
Don't break these rules! This is the only reason that you won't get your free iPhone, so make sure you follow these rules!

- One account per household - don't use a public computer to sign up!
- Use real information - this is a proven legitimate site and they will not give out your information.
- Only complete each offer once! You cannot complete the same offer again, even for different freebies.
- Don't try to cheat the system. This site has been proven legitimate, and they will catch you if you try to cheat. If you do everything legitimately, by following this guide, you will get a free iPhone!

Thats all, just follow my guide and you will have your free iPhone in no time.

Thank you.

  The Matrix
Review created: 18/01/08

This is still my favourite movie and one that I have seen more than 10 times, as I went out and got the VHS edition back then before DVD's were in. It is a movie that can be seen on many levels. Some will see it just as a great action movie which it is, but there is so much more to this film. It is a fantastic depiction of the journey of the spiritual seeker and the difficulties that he encounters within himself as he starts pushing against the prisons of his own mind and the multitude of programs that operates and which keep us small.

It also neatly depicts the way humans are kept as 'food for the moon' in Gurdjieff's words or simply food for ultra terrestrials. In the film this is depicted as humans, being little less than cultivated biological batteries for the machines.

The story is part of a trilogy and all three parts are worth watching more than once, as you will undoubtedly see new things each time. Things that start making sense only after some time of reflection and reading. In this regard I can recommend reading the book by Ouspensky called "In Search of the Miraculous", and the book by Laura Knight-Jadczyk called "The Secret History of the World".

concept in film changes and every now and again you get a gem of a film come along, thats exactly what happened when the matrix arrived in 1999. for me the story line had me fixed from start to finish and took me off on a journey of film adventure that changed my believe in "feature films are not dead" syndrome.i brought this dvd because i think anybody who is a sci fi/ adventure film fan should own a copy it will never age in concept its too far out there.shame the sequels could not live with the original.

Is it really the way we're gonna be?
Review created: 09/07/07

In 1999 ‘The Matrix’ was quite possibly the film of the decade. After a quite spell in Cinemas, it came and shook us up completely. Living in a world of computer technology and advancements too quick to mention, the film is set today. But in the film today is much further into the future than we actually know. The matrix is what we ‘live’ in and it is actually a complex computer programme that only a select few have uncovered. The few that have are generally ‘hackers’ and once they know the truth there is no going back. You have to watch this film, just to find out what the matrix really is; I don’t think its that unbelievable! It also has a religious aspect behind all the technology and portrays a modern day ‘coming’ of the One and the prophets and the philosophical structure to the film is interesting to watch as well. Fantastic special effects as well.

The Matrix DVD Review - Superior to Video
Review created: 02/06/07(updated 02/06/07)

This is one of the films we had on Video for years and wanted to update our collection.

Still totally amazed at the quality difference between Video and DVD, this is far superior.

The Matrix Trilogy is among our favourite viewing and Keanu Reeves is stunning in the lead role.

For me this is one of my all time favorite films and it will be right up there in my ranks for a very long time.

5/5 gets my vote, very well written and a very good cast. This is a film that stand in your mind for a long time and it's one that you can watch over and over.

The best story line in any film that you are likely to watch for a long time, if you haven't seen this film, or even if you have and don't own the DVD, this is not one to miss out on.
