i remember watching this movie on old VHS and being mesmerised both by the story and wonderful Peter Gabriel soundtrack.Moving and evocative the newer DVD versions adds to the stunning visual dispaly.By no means full of high tech images the beautiful filmography and great acting makes this a great start to those who have seen the da vinci code and wondered.Just imagine..God becomes human.
I bought The Last Temptation of Christ so I could get a different take on Christ's life. When I was watching it, I was comparing it to The Passion of the Christ and many other films about this subject. What I liked about it was the actors cast for the film; I especially like Willem Dafoe's take on Christ; It was a very different angle, and showed more clearly the temptation of humankind. To see David Bowie in the film was a plus too, but to be fair, David Bowie did not add much to acting side as he was only in the film for about five minutes. What I did not like about this story was that I found it very confusing. I have read the gospels on many occassions and found this production to not really hit all the most important parts of Christ's character. Fair enough the temptation side was more than covered, but the love side of it seemed a bit twisted, and Christ is a very giving, loving,Caring person after all. I feel this film could have been a bit more balanced when it came to Christ's character; I found this film very dark and pailed in comparason to The Passion of the Christ; Don't tell Martin Scorsese I said that!
Do not get me wrong; I like this film, but it just does not hit all the marks for me!
The Last temptation of christ DVD - is excellent value for money and a good film. I have always liked the film when it first came out, some years ago now, and can now watch it at my leisure. It has not dated and actually adds another dimension to the theme of the De Vinci Code and was as controversial in its day! For all who like a thought provoking film then this is the one to watch. Good acting, beautiful scenery, and excellent quality in DVD format. It always leaves me emotionally charged and profoundly overcome in its portrayal of Christ's last temptation with a fantastic twist to the ending. Worth watching !!
