Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Donald Sutherland, Edward Norton, Charlize Theron Director: F. Gary Gray
I groaned at the prospect of an Italian Job remake. I envisioned a bunch of Hollywood geeks with dollar signs for eyes trying to steal some of the original film’s thunder. Thankfully though, all that connect the two films are monikers and Minis.
Charlie Croker (Wahlberg) and John Bridger (Sutherland) lead a motley bunch of expert thieves into Venice and steal $35 million in gold bars. But, the gang are quickly double-crossed by one of their own, the devious Steve (Norton). One year later, Charlie has tracked him down and is out for revenge, enlisting the help of John’s daughter, Stella (Theron). What follows is a satisfying rush of retribution and action.
I’m very happy to say this film delivers the goods, thanks mostly to its cast. The Italian Job features a charismatic ensemble with some great dialogue and funny moments between them.
And of course, the film doesn’t skimp on the element which made the original such a cult classic – the antics of the new Mini Cooper. Well choreographed and skillful driving grace the thrilling high octane sequences.
The end result is an entertaining, excellently paced flick combining a likeable cast with some clever and meticulous scripting. This is Gone In Sixty Seconds (but better) meets Oceans Eleven. With a damn cool car.
i first saw the original film at the pictures many years ago i also have the original film on video and its a great film. i missed seeing the remake at the pictures but i watched it one night round a freinds house and was totaly blown away. it's nothing like the original which pleased me because in my opion that would have spoiled it for me the action in the new one are well done and the story line is very good and so is the acting this film is good in it's own right.
love everything about this film.its the best film ever.its exciting loads of action and it keeps you glued to the tv.this film is a must have especially to all you car lovers.
I like the Mini link but growing up there was always something special about the original catching it on after Sat morning telly. still a good film but nothing like as cult as the original. My son wanted the Dvd so that's why I bought it!
An excellent film anjoyed by all. Fast action, great cars and fantastic stunts. I watched this film and really enjoyed it and decided to buy it for my son as he is really into mini's! I would watch it again and again!
great film it does justice the original italian job movie. The extras are good to watch with behind the scenes action of how some of the stunts were pulled off.
How any fan of the original could write anything good about this amazes me,its an average US action film in its own right but for anyone that draws any credible comparisons that thing in the middle of your arm is your elbow, and the thing that films like this come out of is your arse
How could they even think of re-making the original? I was in no rush to watch it but i do like my car action films, i just expected it to be the exact same film just with new Mini's an actors... HOW WRONG WAS I??? They even emitted the "suppost to blow the bloody doors off" yet i STILL found this re-make absolutely fab. Now i have it on DVD i can watch it at my leisure. Def an 8 out of 10. Great work.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
If you have ever seen the original version of the Italian job and liked or loved it, then you should watch this, you wont be disapointed, it's action packed slick and stylish, a must see for new and old fans.
This movie is an absolutely excellent film, i loved the original but i thought this film was much more gripping, plus Mark Wahlberg is in it and i think he is an excellent actor..... So my advice if it's a great movie u want to watch, then watch this one...
I found this an incredible movie to watch. Totally different to the original but it grabs your attention from the off. Great to see the new Minis in action and maintaining some links with original. Great characters as well and so well put together. I wanted to see how it compares with the original and I was more than surprised to see it as a film for its time and not trying too hard to be something it is not. 11 out of 10.
I loved the original so much I just had to buy this. I was not dissapointed.
A great film bringing the story bang up to date. A believable story line follows all the way through with characters you care about.
Plenty of extra features if that's what you are interested in, including Making of, driving school, the mighty mini stunt scenes, deleted scenes, out takes and a trailer.
i love films like these. not glamorising burglary but the intensity of chase and escape. i love the original and wanted to see the remake. that is why i bought it. it is a good film in its own right but maybe a change of name. the only thing that remains the same are a couple of names and three mini's. but in all, its good! joe larkin
