A wonderful and high spirited film with superb acting and great uplifting songs. It made me laugh and feel good throughout the film. Highly recommended viewing for family entertainment indeed.
If you love Soul and Gospel music...if you love Beyonce and Angie Stone... if you love the brilliant comedic acting perfomance of Cuba Gooding Jnr...then you will LOVE this film. It is light on the eyes and ears, the comedy is full fun and the mix of the old and young, black, hispanic and white musical talent is incredible!!! It is the story of a young man (Cuba) who returns to his childhood home after many years to fulfil the dying wish of his great Aunt Sally to manage the local Church Gospel Choir and get through to a Gospel Explosion contest. He has to find the choir first and along the way discovers the amazing talent of Beyonce. This is a story of an ordinary Southern community living in musical harmony and sometimes musical disharmony together. It has a grin factor which compares only with sinking into a relaxing warm bath after a cold day. I would greatly recommend it, as a feel good film to watch over and over.
dvd very perfect and movie so interesting. i've been watching it over and over again. i have heard of the movie before so i decided to buy, i was not disappointed
I loved this movie. Its great to find something all the generations of my family right down to the grandchildren can watch and enjoy together. A real " FEEL-GOOD" movie. Had already seen it at the movies bt hen I spotted on Ebay decided to add to my DVD collection - one of my best idea's lately
This is a feel good movie with great musical numbers! Featuring some of the more well known black artists like Beyoncé Knowles, Angie Stone & Shirley Ceaser. Cuba Gooding Jr performs fantastically! The storyline revolves Darrin Hill around (Cuba) a cheapskate who loves nothing more than money, money and money. His late Aunt Sally (on of the most involved members of a baptist church) left him a large inheritance on one condition - that he leads the baptist choir to the "Gospel Explosion" and wins, a competition that is prestigious amongst the Christian members of the USA. Eery movie has to have a pretty girl. In comes Lily (Beyoncé), the single mom that is ignored because of her son (conceived in conditions that the baptist church didn't particularly approve of) and her work singing secular music. You can guess what happens between them! The plot is slightly predictable, however not enough to spoil the overall warmth of the movie. Whether religious or not, this movie has something for everyone! 9 / 10
