The classic and most compelling of revenge stories: betrayal and corruption set against the politics of an exiled Napoleon. Edmond the betrayed experiences the extremes of fortunes, but sadly vast discovered wealth cannot restore what is corrupted in him by the cruelty of 14 years solitary imprisonment and the knowledge of love lost and a friendship betrayed. This is a handsomely produced retelling, well paced and acted. The lead is convincingly fragile.
This film is a good remake of an excellent original with a different ending. Although this is slightly different it still tells the classic story of revenge and love. I'd recommend anyone to watch this and the original with Richard Chamberlain to see the differences.
I love this film because its a great take on the original book. I also love Jim Caveziel too! It has adventure, drama, romance...all the stuff you want in a good movie.
This film is a must see. I've watched it about 6 times and have just bought a copy to watch again. From the start, you learn about the people in the film and them in no time at all, the film reaklly gets going. This film is in my all time top 10 along with The Shawshank Redemption, A Knights Tale and a few others! A true rags to riches masterpiece with some fantastic twists!
