A Masterpiece of 80's comedy based on true people!!!!!

After building up the duo's popularity through recordings and several performances on Saturday Night Live, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd--as "legendary" Chicago blues brothers Jake and Elwood Blues--took their act to the big screen in this action-packed hit from 1980. As Jake and Elwood struggle to reunite their old band and save the Chicago orphanage where they were raised, they wreak enough good-natured havoc to attract the entire Cook County police force. The result is a big-budget stunt-fest on a scale rarely attempted before or since, including extended car chases that result in the wanton destruction of shopping malls and more police cars than you can count. Along the way there's plenty of music to punctuate the action, including performances by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, and James Brown that are guaranteed to knock you out. As played with deadpan wit by Belushi and Aykroyd, the Blues Brothers are "on a mission from God," and that gives them a kind of reckless glee that keeps the movie from losing its comedic appeal. Otherwise this might have been just a bloated marathon of mayhem that quickly wears out its welcome (which is how some critics described this film and its 1998 sequel). Keep an eye out for Steven Spielberg as the city clerk who stamps some crucial paperwork near the end of the film

Really good movie if you like R&B
Review created: 20/08/08

I brought this movie for my daughter who acted in a school play Blues Brothers and Soul Sisters. She really enjoyed it as she couldn't understand some of the scence in the play.

I like this film too

I'd forgotten just how funny this is
Review created: 07/07/08

My hubby has been nattering for years for this movie and I kind of dragged my heels to buy it, but I'm glad I did I'd forgotten just how funny this movie was, Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi at their very best, cameo's by Aretha Franklyn, James Brown, carrie fisher, Cab Calloway to name a few, the kids loved it and found the car chase excellent, a good all round laugh a few blue words but good music and a good basic story line

A comedic gem, full of cool songs and great moments.
Review created: 01/05/08

A comedy classic, starring the likes of John Belluschi and a young David Akyroyd. It's full of great moments, funny and memorable alike, involving music legends like James Brown and Ray to name just a few, and ram-packed with great classic songs, mostly soul and jazz. Also host to the biggest pile up of cop cars in any film that I know of so...what's not to like?

one of the most enjoyable films I've ever seen - great music, very, very funny and it's fun to spot the cameo performances too. The sort of film you can watch many times and still see something new that you missed before. recommend very highly.

Blues Brothers - Aykroyd, Belushi & special guests

Having watched it for the first time on VCR, I thought that it was time to buy it on DVD. So I searched on eBay for it, and bought it for an extremely reasonable price, bearing in mind that I could not find it in the shops near me. Received it, opened it, watched it, loved it!!! Not knowingly that there were extra sequences that were cut out of the original 1980 movie. From the lengthened introduction where Jake Blues, (John Belushi) leaves prison after 3/5 years for “good behavior”, and meets his brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd), to the epic 106 mile car chase from the Palace Hotel, to the J. Daley Plaza “where they got that Picasso”.
Dan Aykroyd (SNL, Trading Places), makes his appearance as driving superstar Elwood. The awesome Dodge Monaco 74 makes its’ memorable appearance as the infamous Bluesmobile – the much loved car that loyally transports Jake and Elwood to their gigs, and out of trouble, before literally falling apart near the end of the film.

Complete with bonus features, including how they made the film, and the extra few minutes that were cut out, the Blues Brothers is a must see film!

Favourite line:
“It’s 106 miles to Chicago. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses. Hit it!”

John Landis has done it yet again!

The Blues Brothers 2000 (1998), is just as action-packed and hilarious as the original.
Co-starring:
Frank Oz (Warden), Kathleen Freeman (the “Penguin”), Cab Calloway (Curtis), James Brown (Rev. Cleophus James), Steven Williams, Carrie Fisher, John Candy, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Henry Gibson, Jeff Morris, Charles Napier, Steve Lawrence, Twiggy, and Steven Spielberg.

The Blues Brothers Band:
Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Steve “The Colonel” Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Murphy Dunne, Willie “Too Big” Hall, Tom “Bones” Malone, Alan “Mr. Fabulous” Rubin, and “Blue” Lou Marini.

10/10 Action packed fun!!

Having finished my shopping for Christmas my husband suddenly announces that he would like a DVD of the BLUES BROTHERS. I went all over and couldn't find it so I tried eBay and hey what do you know I found a brand new and sealed one at a very reasonable buy it now price. I scored major brownie points Christmas morning!!!!! He went on to play it as soon as he opened it - not quite my cup of tea but it floated his boat and he hasn't laughed so much in ages so worth every penny.
Many thanks

The Blues in this film is simply awesome.
It's like a who's who of blues.
A must for every collection.
Avoid Blues Brothers 2000 - its crap - somethings just can't be repeated.

One of my favourite films of all time.
I watch this every time I need to be cheered up. Within minutes of starting to watch The Blues Brothers the "PENGUINE" scene has me laughing and I am sat smiling or laughing from beginning to end.
The music is brilliant and Dan Ackroyd's dancing is so mesmerizingly funny.
Some absolutely wonderful, classic, singing stars also in this film and anyone would be a fool not to have this film in their collection.

I decided to buy this item as my boyfriend has been after it for a while but could not find it in the shops for a reasonable price.
After finding it on ebay, brand new and from a member with excellent feedback, I decided to bid for it and fortunately won it at the right price.
Very happy with the purchase and my boyfriend was over the moon too.
