Seen the first part of it on Sky and didn't get to see the end. Now I've watched all of it on DVD, I feel that it's one of the best Bruce Willis films that I have ever seen.
Bruce plays the part of a Lieutenant leading an elite team into a deadly part of the jungle where African people are being slaughtered as part of ethnic cleansing. His mission it to extract a Doctor from this area along with two Nuns and a Priest and take them to safety. Only the Doctor was extracted and the others refused to leave the African people, Bruce tricked the Doctor into thinking that he would also extract the African people who were able to walk under their own steam. After getting the Doctor onto the helicopter and flying off without her people he gets a guilty conscience and turns the helicopter around and this is where the action really kicks in.
An absolute must see for all those Bruce fans out there or anyone who wants to watch bad people getting their asses kicked!!
I bought the tape because I wanted to see what it had to say. I've spent 6 months in Nigeria about 10 years ago and I wanted to compare notes, so to speak- check my view of the country against someone else's. I guess is true that once you get the red African clay on your soles you can never shake it off...
I thought the phrase "God has left Africa" was very appropriate. The film indeed depicts the state of many African countries, the plight of Africa's women and children... It is sad that such practices still exist even today and are most likely to exist for the foreseeable future. The film depicts the worst, but also the best of human nature. It depicts the face of Africa that most people would like and succeed not to think about too much, otherwise they could not sleep- I'm one of those people, so I know....
All in all, a good film- some inaccuracies- no carvings on the faces, like the majority of Nigerians have, but in the name of artistic license the inaccuracies can be forgiven.
This film comes across as a very believable snapshot of the brutal realities of civil war in an African state. The leader of a rescue mission has to make some unenviable decisions, pitting humanitarian and moral considerations against strict compliance with military orders and the risks to his own men. There are some violent scenes, but nothing too gory.
I couldn't remember much of what was written or said about this film at the time it was released, and I didn't see it on the big screen; I bought it becasue the brief description sounded interesting enough and because I normally like Bruce Willis' films. I wasn't disappointed.
Brilliant film about a group of navy seals who have to evade african rebels with refugee's in tow including their tribal leader and sucssesor to power whilst along the way being betrayed by one of their party. Best war type film i've seen in ages not to mention one of the best ever in my opinion.
Watched this film on itv 2 and liked it so much wanted a copy without adverts in and also wanted to see if they had cut any scenes out like they usually do.
i saw this film on tv ages ago and oh my god, it's one of those films that just gets to you, it's well made and produced perfectly in every way. fantastic film.

i saw this film for the first time on television about a year ago and i didnt really find it to be very good, after hearing the name mentioned on a tv show recently i remembered the film and thought i would like to see it again, to give it a second chance, i have to say i am very glad that i did as i think that it is now one of my favourite films.
An excellent film if you like action/war films. Quite thought provoking. Similar to films such as Apocalypse now. A film which you can watch more than twice without getting bored. A good addition to your DVD collection.
we had recorded this film on sky and it did not complete the last half an hour me and my partner were gutted as its really intense and you have to know what happens so i bought it off ebay and we decided to watch the whole film again an ace watch
