I had such high hopes for this movie after laughing several times during the trailers I caught at the cinema on several occasions.
How disappointed I was at this DVD.

This movie is full of constant and unnecessary swearing all the way through. The humour is not as frequent and as side-splitting as I hoped it would be. I had the impression that this would be a funny teen movie along the lines of American Pie, which is constant humour and the odd swear word for comedy value. Superbad goes too far in the opposite direction with too much profanities and not enough funny moments. I was very surprised and completely disappointed by this movie.

Unfortunately this is all BAD and no super at all.

It might seem like an American pie gimic but this does have something extra about it, a rather different look on the whole college scene. Prepare to the laugh at slapstick comedy!

  Superbad...the name says it all

after hearing so much about this film, and the fact that i missed this when it was in the cinema...i decided to splash out on this on DVD...oh how it WASN'T worth it.
it has it's occasional funny moments, but i didn't find it as good as was expected.
it is your typical american teen comedy, focusing on a group of three high-school losers trying to hook up with the girls they like before they all go their separate ways to college.in order to do that, they must secure
alcohol for the big party later that night.comedy ensues along the way, with fake I.D's, clueless cops, and a whole host of secondary charecters who move the story along to it's inevitable end...or so you'd think.
i won't ruin it for you if you are looking to buy this film, so just buy it and watch it yourself and make your own mind up over it.
if you are a fan of the american teen comedy...then this would be your thing...unfortunatly, it's not mine

  Comic gold
Review created: 25/03/08

Comic gold which entwines the trouble's of adolescent drinking and geeky hilarity. Fogel (Mintz-Plasse), Evan (Cera) and Seth (Hill) complete the trio which the plot is centered on and provide witty one liners that will have you in stitches.

The storyline is around one thing that alot of the audience will be able to relate to, the trouble of alcohol. Seth is coerced by beautiful and persuasive Jules (Stone) who is intent on throwing a party to say farewell to her peers, with Seth convinced it is a subtle undertone for something more sexually orientated. Evan however, prefers the more subtle approach which makes it even the more funnier with confrontations between the two providing some amusing arguments.

Fogel on the other hand, well that lad is on another planet. Intent on just having a good time, he probably has the best attitude to all of this with the free will to act before he thinks, which makes it even more the funnier for the viewer. The decision to choose his name on his fake i-d as Mclovin' is one of the best parts of the movie and this single part makes watching the movie worthwhile.

Overall this is a must see movie for movie goers who claim to be in-touch with the adolescent angle on life as it certainly delivers on all fronts in the comic department. Get it on DVD and make sure you watch the extras as they are brilliant...

Not that good The 40 year old Virgin and Knocked Up where better and funnier in my opinion.

A film for the Lads more than the Ladys.

I had seen 40 year old Virgin and Knocked Up and enjoyed them so thought this would be funny. It wasnt. It is revolting, gross with unattractive characters with the F word used every other word. Avoid like the plague!

Superbad revolves around two co-dependent high school seniors (Hill and Cera) who set out to score alcohol for a party, believing that girls will then hook up with them and they will be ready for college. But as the night grows more chaotic, overcoming their separation anxiety becomes a greater challenge than getting the girls. -Official Site

I think Judd Apatow is the modern recreation of Midas. Everything he touches is comedic gold. Breaking out with The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, Apatow has proven that he knows comedy. Lending a hand as a producer for Superbad, Apatow lets veteran TV director Gregg Matolla helm this one. Add Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as writers to the mix, a few well placed cameos, and you have the recipe for one of the summers funniest, if not crassest, comedies. Even I, as a 30-ish male, can see parts of myself in each and everyone of these characters. While not having had quite this outrageous of an adventure, I have had nights that resemble this in my younger days.

First and foremost, I have got to talk about Jonah Hill. The boy is a rising star and steals almost every single scene that he is in. Next up is Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s McLovin, er, Fogel. This kid is the epitome of dorkiness and yet seems to have the best time out of all the kids. Who wouldn’t have fun hanging out with cops, drinking and shooting guns all night long? Out of the three main characters, Michael Cera seems to be the weakest link. For most of the movie he comes off as an effeminate little boy who needs to show some courage, and while that is what the movie is about, he never really does it. Things just kind of end up working out for him by the end of the film. How can I review this film without mentioning Seth Rogen and Bill Hader as two cops who just want to be cool. Well, they are extremely funny, but all of their antics took me out of the movie for a bit. Extremely un-policemenlike behavior that would never fly in the real world.

One of the funnest comedies i've seen in a long time. Topped off by brilliant performances from Bill Hader and Seth Rogen. Anyone who liked 40 year old virgin or Anchorman will love this new comedy.

SuperBad - Not that Bad !!!!

I fought it was going to be another American Pie Rip off, but this film brings in it own style. Do not get me wrong its one of those over the Top silly American Comedy's but clever with it at the same time.

Its from the Maker's of Knocked up & one of my favourite comedy film's ever the 40 Year old Virgin.
It has some Great character's like the 3 main super geeks Whose story this revolves around & 2 Cops which get the best lines & will have laughing throughout the film.

We have seen this sort of film before Geeks chasing girls & somehow ending up with them right at the end, but nonetheless this is a highly entertaining comedy.

7/10

  American Pie for the noughties
Review created: 18/02/08

Firstly, American Pie is crude but funny and stole a hell-of-alot from Porkies.

Superbad is similar but lots more original and doesn't rely on set pieces for the jokes.

The story follows 3 geeks (who else) trying to get drink for a party and get laid.

But it's mroe than that. Naturally we see the boys realise it's more than sex etc but what makes Superbad so great is the characters and how they love each other.

A rights of passage in a way, Superbad is hilarious and warm at the same time - something American Pie wasnt

Super bad is one the funniest films to come out in recent years. The performances from the leading roles are excellent, and the script and direction are also very sharp and witty. I would strongly recommend this film to anyone with a sense of humor, not to be missed.

Burst of fresh comedy into a stagnating scenario

Superbad includes some of the funniest clever humour I have seen in a long time with some pretty stupid dialogue occasionally that cant help but make you laugh. It has injected some life into the same old teen movie genre and the writers of this should be proud but they do seem to be knocking out films like a single mom on the chatsworth estate from Shameless (Channel 4 Television). For this film I think there could have been more laughs without it getting repetive or boring, and maybe its just that I expect something like this to be more prolific and really push the boat out. Leave me feeling completely satisfied and for a short enjoyable watch, the film did. I just want something with the comical genius of this to really change comedic cinema. Overall the film is definately worth the watch and one of the best of the genre this year!

This reminded me of a 70's movie! superb! a test of friendship, with the geek, the fat kid and the quiet kid all coming good, and you see that being like one of them is no bad thing at all! just like in real life never judge a person by their looks, voice or mannerisms! there are a lot of never done before jokes and scenes eg when Seth (Jonah Hill) dances with an older woman who grinds against his leg and leaves a period stain on his trousers! also when Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) makes a fake id and calls himself Mclovin! Fab movie!

Original Comedy with laughs throughout, not the most mature jokes at times, but theres something to make everyone laugh. The awkward one liners in the film really set it apart, especially when your watching it with some friends. Needed to buy this film to relive all the great moments!

Cheapest i've seen available outside Ebay : £9.98 Delivered

From the guys who brought you Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin comes Superbad. Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) want nothing more than to hook up with girls they like before they head off to college. To do that, though, they need to get alcohol for the big party that night. With the help of their friend Fogell, a.k.a. McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and his fake I.D., the three of them go on a hilarious chase for that elusive booze, dodging incompetent cops (Seth Rogen and Bill Hader) while attempting to reverse a lifelong losing streak in one hilarious night.

This is one of the best comedies of the year. Interestingly it takes the concept of a buddy nerd teenagers flick and rather than having all three in every scene together all the time, it lets each individual follow thier own path. Up there with N.Dynamite. It is refershing to go to the cinema and split yourself in two with laughter!
