this is a very good example of new orders early work, but stil not up to joy division standard.the earlier rythms and riffs, and base work do stand up to scrutiny.
I originally had this cd on double vinyl years ago and am currently replacing all my vinyl lp's with cd's. It completely blew me away to hear this album again, an absolute thrill to hear the likes of bizarre love triangle's rhythmic grooves forcing you to your feet. A chill raced up my spine to hear `Temptation' with its haunting melody that left me yearning for the mid eighties, its freedom, it's paranoia, even it's dodgy dress sense!. This is the album that i would suggest people should listen to if they never experienced the 80's for themselves. It completely epitomises a decade that wallowed in a new found wealth and decadence after suffering long years of austerity and want. Buy this album and prepare to dance your Adidas sambas off. Go on, have some!
THIS DOUBLE C,D IS A CLASSIC,IT DOES NOT SOUND DATED EACH TRACK SOUNDS AS GOOD AS WHEN ORIGINALLY RELEASED.I PURCHASED THE C,D AS MY COPY ON VINYL WORE OUT.MUCH BETTER THAN THE SINGLES COLLECTION.
this was bought for my Son who has been trying to purchase it and could not get it anywhere, he is very pleased and it is playing all the time, I quite like it myself.
From the ashes of post-punk giants Joy Division, New Order rose phoenix-like and from the shimmering guitars of 'Ceremony' to the classic synthpop of 'True Faith', this is one of the best single collections of all time. And this was only the first 6 years of the band's existence! Every song is a classic (bar the badly remixed 'Sub-Culture') and the b-sides disc isn't bad either. 'In a Lonely Place' and 'The Beach' both seeming timeless and just as good as their A-side counterparts.
All in all, pretty flawless and whenever i listen, "I feel so extraordinary"...
