i'm a massive tv and film fan, and love my boxsets. I caught a couple of episodes of this show late on Channel 4 and more 4 recently in the uk when it has been repeated. this was all i needed to get the urge to watch the whole thing. the show is from the brains behind the west wing. so naturally the show is expertly written and directed. the dialogue is incredibly witty, smart, subtle and progressive. the premise of the show is a comedy/drama/satire of two slightly unhinged tv producers/writers who are thrust into their old job of running SNL, well not the exact show, but one practically identical to it.the show flows at a breathtaking pace at times with long moving dynamic camera shots, which can be examined as aprt of the extras in the box set. i don't want to waste your time reading this, when you could be watching. so to summarize, brilliant show, great for multiple viewings, funny and smart(with dramatic moments also, like when Tom Jeter finds out his brother in the army has been captured and loses it. the only drawback is that the series has been left in limbo as the damn network won't make a second season, but there is no cliffhanger ending so you won't be in suspense as to what happens, but will be eager for more nevertheless.
Aaron Sorkin writes excellent TV. Whilst not quite up to the standard of the West Wing, there are some episodes on here that are superb. The characters are all very likeable with interesting quirks. Bradley Whitford and Matt Perry are one of the best double acts I've seen and it is a great disappointment to me that there were no more series of this show. Brilliant entertainment - so much better than the rubbish that is fed to us by today's TV writers.
I loved Studio 60 with all its backstage frenetic activity, I loved the writers room where people over the years had sat and tried to make something out of the news, something funny, I loved the whole premise of the series, but most of all I loved the characters. The characters draw you in for they are the heart of studio 60, the writers have done a great job here and suceed in making you really care about what happens to them, and to studio 60. I bought it because a friend told me to watch it, and I am so glad I did, great writing, very clever, funny, and sad that it ended.
Very good series program, offering comedy and action, has always got a very good story line going throughout the show and doesn't get boring! Brilliant show 5 star rating!
FIVE STARS NO DOUBT. i LOVE it! Finding an intelligently made piece of entertainment on television is increasingly hard nowadays, Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip was a remarkable piece of entertainment; a unique gem of excellence. Every episode boasts outstanding acting from the leads, who provide impeccable attention to detail. Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford give energetic and super naturalistic performances throughout the whole series and other notable performances come from Steven Weber who plays Jack Rudolph the network chairman, Sarah Paulson who plays Harriet and Timothy Busfield playing Cal. Aaron Sorkin's masterpiece is truly something special, I like so many others cannot understand how this show was axed. Was it to sophisticated for the American audience? Too deep? Too realistic? Or was it that the show struck notes some that Americans did not want to hear? Issues such as religion, racism and the war in Iraq play large roles in the series, was it that the show was a touch too close to the bone for our friends on the other side of the Atlantic? Who knows why they didn't like it but what we do know is why it was axed. The ratings dropped and due to the power that the advertising companies have in American television it was pulled. The last few episodes that were filmed after the show had been axed delve into this issue slightly. But what Studio 60 has done is shown to us that cleverly crafted entertainment will cease to exist if the power of advertising continues. It comes back to art versus business and ultimately and in reality business wins. As humble viewers all we can do is revel in the quality and pray someone will ask Sorkin to make a second series. Amen...... Sam cjdvduk
