I HAD THIS FILM ALREADY ON VIDEO BUT WANTED IT ON DVD AS I PLAY A LOT OF MOVIE'S ON MY P.C LOVE THE STORY,ALSO THE ACTORS,IT'S A SAD STORY A STORY OF A MUM'S RIVALRY OF HER EX HUSBANDS GIRLFRIEND ALL MUMS KNOW THEY CAN DO BETTER THAN ANYONE FOR THEIR CHILDREN ( RIGHT ?)A STORY OF FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF WHAT MUST BE. A WEEPIE, BUT GREAT I LOVE THE MOVIE AND WATCH QUITE OFTEN.
I like this film as it mirrors in places something similar that has happened in my life. But I dislike the sometimes unbelievable actions of Jackie, Luke and Isabel. That certainly doesn't strike me as 'real world'. Jackie(Susan Sarandon) and Luke (Ed Harris) are divorcing after years of marriage and two children, Anna and Ben. Their new stepmother, Isabel (Julia Roberts), wants to be involved in the children's life, but is unwilling to sacrifice anything for her work. Jackie considers this to be selfish, sparking a conflict between the two women. Jackie is quite bitter towards Luke for walking out on her and the children and now being with a younger and prettier version of what she was years ago. A typical battle ensues when Anna (12) shows dislike of her soon to be step mom. Eventually things settle down somewhat and when cancer strikes Jackie, everyone is forced to grow up and sort out the issues in order to settle their differences. A tearjerker, especially the scenes where Jackie is trying to calm the childrens fears about what will happen when she has gone.... I bought this as I missed it on TV recently and would recommend any divorced person with kids to watch it too.

This is a big weepie!! I have watched this film countless times, and never tire of it. I only bought it by accident, but im glad i did and i would reccommend it to everyone. It approaches issues that people have to deal with in every day life and puts them right in front of you. The film is full of highs and lows and is a great watch! I would say some guys might get a bit bored by it though as its not got much action in it!
Why did I buy this film - why not! Huge Julia Roberts fan and when teamed up with Susan Sarandon and Ed Harris you know you are in for a good couple of hours of classic entertainment. Undoubtedly one of her best roles, evil stepmom who can do no right, turns good in the eyes of her soon to be step children and their terminally ill mother. Fantastic the way her characters natural charm eventually win over. A definite must see!
I recorded this movie by accident and nearly deleted it without watching. I sat down one evening and watched it when there was nothing else on and was totally captivated.
It is a real emotional rollercoaster that had me weeping in places. I personally went through some of what was happening in the movie and it touched a nerve.
I enjoyed it so much that I have now bought it on DVD.
I absolutely love stepmom it has a really brilliant way about it i espiecally love the part where annah mouths it off to the boy who names her and i love the part when the family are all singing on the bed to 'aint no mountain high enough'
