lots of bangs and flashes and ultimatly a fun film to watch if you are under 15 but if are expecting a challenging thriller you will probably be dissapointed.................................................................................
such a good film. a look into the not so distant future. i dont think it was advertsied much at the time but for and sci-fi, war or topgun fan this is a definate buy
Really good action film. In Blu-ray high def the special effects look really great.I would recommend everyone who has a HD ready TV to buy either a Blu-ray DVD player or a PS3 it will really bring your TV to life.
Story: This high-action flight movie centres on a team of three sexy stealth bomber pilots who are forced to fly with EDI (Extreme Deep Invader), a computer-manned prototype plane that specialises in extra-precision bombing. The brainchild of a Bill Gates-esque wunderkind (Richard Roxburgh), EDI has the ability to learn at a fantastic rate, talks like HAL from 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY, and likes to listen to hard rock before going into combat. Before long, a freak accident causes it to question authority and launch an attack on Russia. W.D. Richter's script probes big issues involving man, machine, and the nuclear fate of the free world (Read: DR. STRANGELOVE meets THE TERMINATOR). But this is also an action thrill ride from Rob Cohen the man responsible for THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS and XXX replete with some truly tremendous explosions and speeds that outdo any mph records set in Cohen's past oeuvre. Jessica Biel (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE) is tough and surprisingly believable as the token female fighter pilot, while Jamie Foxx (RAY) makes a fine wingman to the daredevil squadron leader played by Josh Lucas. Sam Shephard (THE RIGHT STUFF) is their commanding officer, with Joe Morton playing a shady politician.
Comments: Great movie, nice flying, nice technology, '' tinman '' is funny at times. Definately Recommendable. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As an avid fan of Top Gun I was curious whether it would be the modern day equivalent. In my opinion it was...it was also formulaic in that it had a token female and black male in lead roles, a love interest and modern IT technology to bring it up to date. I suppose the film makers have to cater for the appeal to all, so the addition of a nerdy inventor (of the plane), hero 'warrior' commander, good guy aircraft carrier commander and corrupt politician together with good guys trying to get the good guys because of corruption makes it interesting and varied.
Overall I enjoyed it - after all some film viewing has to be escapism, without evaluating to see what would be possible or not. I did compare it to Top Gun and there were similarities but the messages were different. Go ahead watch it and form your own opinion - just remember it's aimed as enjoyment and escapism and you won't go far wrong.
I first rented this DVD. To see what it was like. I liked the aerial camera work, really brings modern technology, computerisation home to you, so you get a glimpse of what the modern war planes are now like. I had to buy it. Something to what over and over and over again.
Good film something different, about a futuristic plane which can be operated by a computer which takes over and will not obey orders etc. Bit of a love interest etc.
