Really, not that bad! (quite good infact!)

After watching some re-runs of the next generation on Virgin one, I thought I'd give Nemesis another try. I think it's problem was that it was released at the same time as some other block busters and was overshadowed a bit, and Star Trek itself was on the wane overshadowed too by grittier (and funnier and OK better Sci-Fi shows)

But this movie is fun - nice space battles! and Patrick Stewart is great!

Excellent film, the last film made by paramount Pictures involving the crew of the USS Starship Enterprise. If you saw the series 'StarTrek The Next Generation' would like this, but you would like it just as much if you never saw the series, as the film is cleverly produced for non-trekkies as well.

Without giving too much away, (as I'm sure you'll want to enjoy the film first hand.) The premise of the story line is about how ones life would turn out under a different set of curcumstances: We are what our experiences in life makes us.

More importantly, how crucial it is in life to always better oneself; to strive to become a better person. These are the aspects that Captain Picard and Data (the Android) try to figure as they foil the Reman leader Shinzon's, plans to destroy Earth.

Film has great surround sound effects, explosions, phaser fire, ship chases, a 4x4 buggy chase in a real desert, combined with a really good philosophical story line.

There are some nice scenes, showing much of the personal life of the crew, and how they're progressing in life.

The dialog is very memorable and Intelligent, you might even go away with some usefull knowledge about Gilbert & Sullivan plays. Patrick Stewart, whom I think is the best British actor that ever lived does a fantastic job carrying this film.

A very powerful scene at the ending, where Data demonstrates the ultimate act of Humanity. Keep a handkerchief ready for the other half...

  Star Trek Nemesis the greatest?

This film from the Star Trek stable, focuses on the Team from the Next Generation Series. Theres a Wedding and a few funerals as a number of old nemesis turn up. Is it the Romulans, is it a android or is it a clone that is going to cause the problem. Well there is always a twist to make you think again. A good film enjoyable especially if you like Star Trek.

If you're a Trekkie, you'll like this film

A very watchable Trekkie flick, with the 'Next Generation' cast. My favourite Star Trek film (of ALL the Star Trek films made) is 'First Contact', and I couldn't help compare the two; this one was made three years' later. A very happy start (Troi and Riker get married) and some very humorous moments involving Data. The main plot revolves around a mad man, who is somehow DNA-related to Picard (a little bit complicated). I love Picard almost as much as Kirk! Plenty of action and stunning special effects. Ladies, have your tissues ready ... the ending is very sad - end of an era, but also a new beginning. Enjoy!

  4/5 - Good
Review created: 13/01/07

Story:
In STAR TREK: NEMESIS, based on the STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION television series, the USS Enterprise is gearing up for a challenging mission. While responding to a call from the Romulan neutral zone, the crew comes across a signal on the nearby planet Remus. It turns out to be Data's (Brent Spiner) less advanced brother, B-4 (also played by Spiner). Soon thereafter, Picard is confronted by Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who makes an offer of peace on behalf of the Romulans. As Starfleet enters into negotiations, they realize this treaty may have a twist. Shinzon presents himself as a clone of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), and as a simultaneous friend and foe. Though the baby faced Shinzon wears an intimidating shiny black metallic suit of armor, and spits his words through a nasty sneer, he is clearly no match for Picard. Meanwhile Data has a nifty side project debugging his clone, whose intentions are not as innocent as they may seem. As tension mounts between the crew of the Starship Enterprise and Shinzon's Reman minions, resulting in riveting high-tech deep-space battle, a vital sacrifice must be made to save the day. STAR TREK: NEMESIS's shocking ending will leave viewers hanging, anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series.

Comments:
In this movie Data DIES !!! :(

Picard has a clone, who he tries to see as a son ( a family he has never had ), who rebels against him.

And a new Data ( B-4 ( before ) ) is introduced.

I do think that the Star Trek series are on it's best when they are battling '' The Borg '' & unfortunately they don't appear in this 1, but still a very nice movie.

Recommendable for your Star Trek Collection, A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  Star Trek: Nemesis

The plot (Captain Picard battles a personal adversary – this time, a clone who has access to a superweapon) is straight from The Wrath Of Khan, while the characters stick to formula. Facing up to Tom Hardy’s scowling, strutting villain Shinzon, Patrick Stewart gets the lion’s share of the drama and dialogue. He pulls it off with the usual gravitas, showing once more why he’s far and away the best actor in the ensemble. But for a cast that’s supposed to be just that – an ensemble – there’s little for the supporting players to work with. Jonathan Frakes’ Riker gets his contractual action sequence, Marina Sirtis’ empathic Troi suffers through some embarrassingly-shot ‘psychic’ sequences, and Michael Dorn’s Worf is once more reduced to comic relief.

Fans will enjoy the references to previous journeys, including a wealth of trivia-hound cameos, and action junkies will appreciate one or two set-pieces that return a touch of spectacle to the series. However, the overall feeling here is one of missed opportunity. This is no Die Another Day-style franchise reinvention: it’s business as usual, with all the Trekkian clichés that entails.

I am a big fan of Lt. Cmdr. Data and recently learned of this film. Even though it has been a couple of years since its release, I was able to attain a copy via eBay. 'Thank God for eBay ... :o)...'
The film is B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T and I am well-pleased.

As my review title says i started watching this film for the first time, and i wanted to like it, but its just not, far too many plot holes, and the killing off of "one of the actors" just seemed brash and clumsy, fair enough he is getting to old to play the role but it could have been handled far better, if you want to watch a good star trek film go watch first contact, that is one of star treks greatest moments...

I bought this DVD as I have all the other Star Trek movies apart from this one. It is certainly not the best Star Trek movie by far, but I wanted to complete the set.

  Large or small??
Review created: 11/07/06

This is the best of the Star-trek Moviea to date!! However i feel this Sci-fi series should stay on the small screen as part of the 'normal' series, they only have themselves to fight for the ratings as the different spin offs e.g. Deep Space Nine,Voyager etc... are often on at the same time on a different station.
Why? I hear you say. Well there are few sci-fi series on TV and so they Rule the airwaves. It is only in the cinema that they are bettered and i mean REALLY
BETTERED!!! by Star Wars,The Matrix and many others. When you compare say Star-trek to any Star Wars film even Episode One'The Phanthom Menace' which is generaly considered the worst film in the series, they fail mainly because Nemesis as with all the Trek films Feels like a one hour episode stretched over two hours.
Nemesis looks good has a hazey plot but it does what you expect it to do it entertains and is a very average film, however if it had been a 'tv film' i would have been very happy with it!!!

Janeway and Picard togeter in the same movie
Review created: 03/03/06

Despite not being well promoted when the movie came to British cinemas, it is a masterpiece that put together Kathryn Janeway (ST Voyager) as Admiral Janeway and Jean-Luc Picard (TNG) as the captain of the USS Enterprise. Will the Enterprise be destroyed? Excellent movie !

It lives up to Star Trek. See the Next Generation crew on the famous ship USS ENTERPRISE NCC 1701 E in their final mission. See Commander William T Riker wed to Ship's Councilor Deanna Troi. A Blast to the past for Jean Luc Picard. A must for all fans to see.
