Stand By Me (DVD 2000)

Stand By Me, based on Stephen King's shortstory The Body, is pretty well transformed into a motion picture. With an excellent and lovable cast.
Additional, the DVD has much more to offer then the VHS version, like special features, audio commentary, deleted scenes!

All in all its a nice family movie with a tragic and sensitive plot!
But of course, nothing like the shortstory!!

A great film exploring a "growing up" rite of passage in 1950s America for four pre-teenage boys. Touching, funny, poignant, tense - this film has it all. With some great cinematography and a whole host of songs that you end up humming even if you didn't know them before, "Stand By Me" is a movie you will remember for a long time after you've watched - and you will want to watch it again and again. Watch out for the High Railway Bridge scene - awesome!

This film is a must for all it's about a group of Kid's Growing up in a small Oregon town it opens with Richard Dreyfuss seated in his car the the grown up version of his character Gordon Lachance and now a professional writer. The elder Lachance acts as narrator for the story and reminiscing on the events of that trip when four young Friends set out on an adventure of a life time they set out to find the missing body of Ray Brower who went missing any way this is Typical of four adolescents on the brink of manhood who in the way smoke tell tales, swear because it's cool and band together when the going gets tough fild with humor and suspense this tell's of there adventure in to manhood and an unforgettable time in witch they learn about friendship and a lot of growing up any way this story is Taken from the Steven King novella The Body Stand by me is a great film and classic a must see film for all. I Would recommend this film to evey one and i'd give it a 100% This movie is great family fun. My fave bit is when they tell stories about the pie eating contest any way this film is responsible for bringing the Ben E. King song of the title back to life and this film lures your childhood memories out of their hiding place and plays them before your eyes. Compellingly acted by its child stars, this film is made all the more powerful when watched now and knowing what happened to River Phoenix. This is a must see again movie and one to own so i'd say go buy it.

This film is great, story about friendship seen from teenagers eyes, in times so different and innocent from today. Fantastic cast as well.

Its just a great film, its harrowing, tear jerking and brilliantly scripted.
A great young cast from the brat pack era, it stands up against the likes of green mile and comes out smelling of roses. its no special effects extraviganza but it really is a masterpiece.

Bought it for my daughter, for an extra birthday present. She is a film buff and has started collecting DVDs now. Will always buy off ebay as I know that there are bargains to be found.

This film is a classic, watched it a few years ago and recently remembered that the film exists so decided to buy it, watched it last night and have remembered how amazing the film is, a must see :)

Adapted from the Steven King novella, The Body, Stand by me is set in 1950s Maine( well, it is Steven King) and follows four young freinds as they they set out on a hike in search of the dead body of a child of their own age, killed by a train. The film opens with Richard Dreyfuss seated in his car, the the grown up version of his character, Gordon Lachance, now a proffesional writer. The elder Lachance acts as narrator for the story, reminicing on the events of that trip , his relationship with his freinds, paticularly Chris, played by River Pheonix, and how the search for a dead body became more than just a trip out of morbid fascination but a search for themselves, their own personal hopes and dreams, pains and sorrows and their escape into each other. The movie differs from the book in certain areas, as it must, paticularly in the relationship between Gordy and his deceased older brother( John Cusack ), and the ending is slightly less sombre. The magic of this film is the exploration of childhood that everyone can relate to, and sets this film apart from many a sickly hollywood coming of age drama. Boasting an irresistible soundtrack of old rock an roll classics, this film is responsible for bringing the Ben E. King song of the title back to life. Nostalgic but not sickly, funny and sad, this film lures your childhood memories out of their hiding place and plays them before your eyes. Compellingly acted by its child stars, this film is made all the more powerful when watched now, knowing the real life fate River Pheonix. A must see.

One of my most favourite films.

No sex, no violence, no computer generated imaging just a fabulous engaging story of 4 boys on an overnight quest to see a dead body! Pure storytelling genius made all the more apt with the sad early passing of River Phoeonix, one of the four gifted youngsters in this film.

i really enjoyed this film. It is one that you can call a classic. What inspired me to buy it was the soundtrack song by Ben E. King. It is one of the best songs ever written!! Really enjoyable film. I recommend it to anyone!!

This is one of my favourite films as not only a Stephen King fan but also a River Phoenix fan. It is a film that is so moving and a must have when my video decided to stop. A top film.

this was a film i loved when i was younger. i would watch it over and over. bought this on DVD as nolonger own a video.

I purchased stand by me as it was for my sister's birthday, Its an absolute classic and probably one of the best films ever made, Both my sister and I have been a fan of it all through growing up, But it was mainly for her. A film like this is hard to come by and not many films have matched it...If you've never seen stand by me then i think you should, Good film for all ages

Well i bought this as a present for my brother because its one of our favourite films. So we settled down and watched it together and theres not much more to say about it really except that its great!

Brillient film, had loads of cool extras- thoroughly enjoyed watching the film, there was no jutters whilst watching and item was packaged brand new-and like i said before, it was a really really good film, great for kids and adults!!

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD i had this film on video and wanted to get it on dvd found it on e bay easy a nice film about the life of 4 boys in the usa can take you back to what you used to get upto at that age well worth a look at nice film
