Leona Lewis - Spirit (CD 2007)

I think that Leona Lewis is a great talent. This album has unfortunately has the feel of a OAP afternoon cabaret. The keyboards detract from what could be a fine album. leona's voice seems to come second place with the keyboard's annoyingly loud growling. It seems a shame that having taken so long to produce that Leona's been let down by such shoddy musicianship

i really enjoyed this cd. her voice is exellent,and the songs are very moving.the choice of songs are good but very predictable,the words in the songs are very well written,a really good album..

Never thought i'd buy Leona Lewis' cd when she won x factor - I thought it would be another manufactured 1 hit wonder - but her following songs have been really good! Its a great girly driving sing - a good mix of funky songs and ballards to sing your heart out to! Surprising good buy!

Bought this for my daughter who loves it.Not my type of music but according to her the cd is excellent and she would recommend it!.

She deserved to win X Factor. This album shows why. Great range of songs. The highlight is footprints - enough to bring tears!

As you sit waiting for the hairdresser to ask where you are going for your holidays, this is the kind of music you would expect to be piped out from the salon's sound system.
There is no doubting Leona's voice, it is incredible, and for a UK talent show winner she surprised everybody. She is obviously in a completely different league to the previous winners, Steve Brookestein and Shayne Ward. However, as soon as the marketing and money men got hold of her they turned her into something that could quite easily be forgotten.
Overproduced, sentimental MOR to be played as background to reading the newspapers on a Sunday morning or by young mum's driving home after dropping the kids off at school.
Why is it that when someone with such a great soul voice gets recognised and signed, do they then get handled wrongly?
I remember the same thing happening to Lulu(arguably the best white soul voice this country has produced, she has simply been given crap to sing). I would love Leona to record using a basic 5 piece band, a string and brass section and use only 16 tracks, then we may get near to the potential this young Londoner undoubtedly has. If Simon Cowell had been smarter, he would have got Duffy's producer to handle this album. Instead of showcasing a wonderful find, we get a watered down Whitney. Shame on you.

Bought it for the wife and find it reasonable easy listening music. Broader than the simple R'n'B I expected and all of it is done quite well. Simon Cowell's influence is clear as a few of the tracks would suit Kelly Clarkson rather well although I wouldn't have bunched the styles together in blocks rather than breaking them up a bit more. For example, the first five tracks are R'n'B before you have two Clarksonesque (not Jeremy) tracks in a row. It would stand up against American artists' work as that is clearly the label's intended market. However, there is sufficient variety to suit most who like their commercial music with just a bit of polish. Won't set the world alight but definitely worth a listen.

I wasn't really a Leona Lewis fan at first, but was fond of "Bleeding Love." My friend gave me the CD, Spirit, as a Christmas present. I wasn't delighted to see an album, I have only ever bought compilations in the past. Althogh after listening to every song, I immediately loaded every song on my phone. Spirit contains something for just about everyone: a bit of R'n'B, a bit of calm and relaxing-type music and a load of Pop music containing some great feet-tapping tunes. Out of the 14 tracks, I'd say I like every one of them- and that's odd, because never have I had a perfect CD! Highly reccomended!

Really wanted the album after hearing her single bleeding love but did think I bet its the only song I liked but I was wrong the whole album is excellent, fab to chill out too and have a good sing along!

This is one of the better selling CDs for many a year and was one that I wished to own. I was therefore surprised at how easy it was to buy and its contents did not disappoint.

What can I say, debut album, Leona Lewis has created on the masterpieces which continue the soul of music. This is a great CD and well worth listening to!

Leona Lewis is something of an anomaly. She has come along way since those distant memories of the great 'X' Factor.

Not only is she pretty and endowed with a voice, she’s also a committed vegetarian and one of the few X Factor winners not to immediately try to capitalise on her success with an album of weak covers. They dont usually make the cut but this one has.

There’s no doubt Leona Lewis is a real talent.

Excellent first album for this world class voice! Brilliant listening. Would recommend anyone to buy this album for themselves or even a gift for family/friend!
