Great sounding for size and portable

Pros: Good sound for size and price range; plenty of features like Intellitext, Textscan, kitchen and sleep timers; excellent reception; USB firmware upgradeable; nice styling (though of course this is subjective!)

Cons; Aerial is huge (though probably why it's got great reception); Few connectors, you can't connect an extra speaker, only connectors are power, USB, and headphone sockets; can't set any wake up alarms; some may not like having to press the 'stations' button before selecting stations.

For it's price, this is a very good sounding DAB radio, a nice fairly warm sound with a little bit of bass. On first turning the radio on it will autoscan for stations, and I was surprised with how many it picked up. Other DAB radios I've got/had get in the region of 40-50 stations, this managed to pick up 60! I live in Lichfield, Staffordshire and if I place the radio upstairs it can pick up Leicester stations, and in the right place and at the right angle even Coventry stations (just!) The only caveat is that the aerial is huge, but can be put at almost any angle, but make sure you have space for it when fully extended! I have found though that with strong local stations I don't even need to have the aerial fully extended.

It also has a range of useful features like Intellitext (Picks up news, info etc. from compatible stations like Virgin and TalkSPORT), and TextSCAN (you can pause/forward/rewind the scrolling DAB text). You can even set kitchen timers and sleep timers, however you can't set wake-up alarms or for the radio to come on at a set time, which is a bit of a shame. Another useful feature is the ability to upgrade the firmware via the MiniUSB port, ideal for any bug fixes, extra features etc. You only get 3 connectors though - power, headphones and MiniUSB port, no option to add an extra speaker, connect to your hi-fi (not sure if you can do this via the headphone socket?) or connect your MP3/MD etc. Having to press the 'stations' button before using the scroll/select wheel can be a bit of a bind to some, I have found sometimes I'm adjusting the volume as I'd forgotten I needed to press this!

Overall, a very good DAB radio from a good name, would be an ideal first DAB radio, or a complement to an existing one. This one of mine can be transported from room to room easily, getting a great signal wherever you are in the house, pretty good sound and available quite cheaply. There may be cheaper DAB radios from other manufacturers out there, but you'll be disappointed in some way - either poor signal, poor sound, poor build quality or if you're really unlucky all of them! Spend a bit more and get one of these, you won't be disappointed!

This is an excellent radio. It does everything that is claimed for it. The reproduction for a radio this size is superb. There are many excellent features that are easy to understand and use. I am delighted with it and would happily recommend it to anyone wanting to buy a really good radio at an affordable price.

Picks up a vast amount of channels even in the lower lands where i live. Looks like a beauty even though it is fantastically cheap for a dab radio. dont settle for a minor brand as they dont pick up dab at all! Go Pure!

The Pure ONE is a benchmark product for DAB receivers. It is a wonderfully simple device to use, it has (in my experience at least) unbeatable reception for DAB services, better sound quality than its appearance might suggest, and can even be upgraded to the latest version of firmware via the USB port. The sole disadvantage with the ONE is that it is a mono only radio, there's no option for an additional (stereo) speaker.

If stereo is important to you then the ONE isn't for you, but you'll be missing out on a top-quality product as the ONE is a more competent DAB receiver than a great many "better" products out there.

It also suffers on the mobility front in the same way that all DAB receivers suffer - battery life is awful compared to FM radios. This isn't Pure's fault, as a DAB receiver is a great deal more complicated than a traditional FM radio, this all has to be powered somehow. The ONE uses six "C" batteries which will last about 30 hours on DAB, 80 on FM. Pure do a line of rechargeable battery packs that replace the individual batteries, but this option isn't cheap. Still, at least it's an option.

Perhaps the ONE's biggest "must-have" feature is its colour. Or, rather, colours. Pure have been almost shameless in this regard, as you can have the ONE in black, white - and a shockingly lurid pink!

If you're not sure if you want to try DAB or not, try a Pure ONE; you'll love it.

I bought this radio after seeing it on the gadget show, in which it recieved a good revue.I can say i am very pleased with the looks of the radio and then reception is brilliant, i would recommend buying the charge pack.
After owning the radio for a short time it stopped working,ie it will not start up,on contacting pure they told me this is a recognised problem and the radio was now u/s. This is the second dab radio i have bought and i will not be buying another.

Sound quality is excellent. It´s very simple to operate also. The only thing is that it uses 6 batteries and they does not last very long. Although you can use also the included adapter to plug it. It can receive FM stations also if you want apart from digatial ones (DAB). The price is affordable. Excellent product.

  Great bit of kit

Great little bit of kit, looks very smart & has performance to go with it, crystal clear sound with a touch of bass with its single speaker, very happy with it! Only down side is the batterys, you really need to buy the re-charge pack from pure, costs another £30 but it charges while you listen & since its a li-on battery booting 4000mha it has plenty of run time & has harldy any weight.. just a shame brand new you'll be looking at £80+ for the radio & battery

This is my first experience of Digital radio, and was unsure really what to go for.I bought this for work and was amazed one night when I cranked it up, at the sheer quality that was obtained from one speaker.Pure are known for producing affordable units and this, for the money was a fantastic purchase, I am now going to try and buy a stereo version that hopefully will match this quality..Digital radio is to FM, as FM is to MW
