Sony MEX-BT5000 CD Player

Excellent quality in respect to both audio and bluetooth capabilities. The only downside I found is the lack of front USB connection. Overall it's a very good piece of equipment.

Great stereo but need to speak louder when someone speaks to you through the bluetooth as it is difficult for them to listen to you. But overall I am enjoying the car stereo

I bought this head unit mainly for the hands free function but also because i'd just bought a new car and wanted to change the stereo. It's easy to use, with a fair sized display and looks quite nice as well!
There's never any problem hearing anyone while you’re on the phone but on the motorway people can't always hear me, but there is a lot of road noise in my car. Sony should release a mic extension that you could run up the A pillar!!!
On any other road at lower speeds all is good though!
Due to the curved screen the sun light reflects off of it sometimes and it can be hard to see whats being displayed but this is mainly due to the positioning of it in the car (MG ZR and it sits quite low down in the dash). If it was higher up, closer to the windscreen i dont think you'd have this problem as it would be closer to eye level rather then trying to look through the curved part of the screen.
The sound quality is good and it will play all sorts of audio formats! As well as playing music straight of my phone via Bluetooth audio streaming, pretty sweet. This also works from Bluetooth enabled Mp3 players.

The only two down sides to this CD player is light reflecting off the screen and the mic being a bit too far away sometimes but both these points are related to the positioning of it in my car so I wouldn’t really call them design faults on Sony’s part.
So to sum it all up I am impressed with this purchase I do really like it, it’s just a shame MG Rover didn’t mount their head units higher up ;)

I bought this cd player for my car i use for work because of the bluetooth handsfree, i was going to buy a standalone handsfree kit but this is only a little bit more expensive and you get a great stereo to boot! excellent sound and nice and loud, and high volt pre out for the subs, great looking stereo, and good quality. only bad thing is sometimes its hard for the people on the other end of the call to hear me but i have got a diesel 4x4, so in a smalller or quieter car it might not be an issue. also very easy to use and to set up for handfree. would reccomend!

The SONY MEX-BT5000 Bluetooth audio system is a nice piece of kit and functions well with my three mobile phones and it has a large window that shows who is calling or who you are calling and easy to set up .
The sound is very good and rich and has many options to fir the sound to your own car
The radio works very well and they are no problems to report
it has a 52X 4 power and you can notice this if you have a poor head unit before you installed this one and it looks very good in any car and it does not look cheap and the buttons are quality and not flimsy like some others can be and this head unit has the ability to store up to 50 numbers with names so quite handy

The only drawbacks I can think of is no motorised front but the rest makes up for that and the front when clipping or unclipping is a bit fiddly until you get use to it and the unit comes supplied with a well padded case shaped for this head unit front

I like this unit and I bought this one of eBay and it is like "as new" as for what I spent you only get the cheap end of the head unit market but this is a unit that will last for years and I say that due to the quality build hope this short review helps you out

hi this is a amazing music system which every one loves to have it in his car , i can drive and answer my phone calls without any fine or points.

I purchaced stereo as old radio broken wanted a hands free device aswell , a friend had this stereo and showed me how easy it was 2 use.I purchaced stereo and have found it to work very well a must if using your phone when in car.

The Sony MEX-BT5000 is an excellent in car cd mp3 player which give you the ability to talk hand free in your car via bluetooth on your mobile phone, the quality of sound through you car speakers while talking to somone is superb its as though somone were in the vehicle with you.you may listen to your favorite cd as loud as you like and when somone phones the music stops and the ringtone comes through the speakers and to answer you simply press the volume button. I am so pleased with cd player that I bought one for my van and one for my car and at £79 each on ebay feel they are axcellent value for money .The only problem is when driving alone for a long time I spend a long time talking to people on the phone and its costing me a small fortune.Better to get them to call you.

The Bluetooth connection on this stereo is great and only took a few minutes to set up with my phone. The sound quality is pretty good too when playing my MP3s,I bought this stereo because it just made sense it fitted my Audi and no holes to drill for hands free.
I'm very pleased with my purchase for both quality and value for money. I'd definitely recommend it if you're thinking of buying a new CD/MP3 car stereo. It's as good as the BOSE system it replaced.

Sony MEX-BT5000 CD Player is the best thing since sliced bread. Use your phone hands free (works superbly) for calling or stream music from your phone or other device via the headunit. Last number calling and answering from the headset from your phone and also control your Bluetooth feed i.e. skip tracks etc from the headunit. Only downside is the unit does not store a "phone book" on so you cannot start a call from the headunit unless its the last number dialed or you are not driving and dial the number via the phone. Nether the less a great tool and for the price of a stand alone Bluetooth car kit you can bring yourself into the 21st century and have the streaming function not included on most stand alone kits.

i had this cd player brought for me at xmas it was a really good price and easy to fit it does a lot of extra things
you can play your music from your phone that you download on it
the best one is you can use it as a hands free kit while you are driving and the sound comes through the speakers and its really clear and the other person can hear you clearly too
it also has great sound options on it

I just love the clear crisp sound I get from this. Its brill! I listen in the morning. I listen in the afternoon, I listen in the evening & I listen before I go to bed. I also listen going to work, I listen in work, I listen on the way to work.

This is a very good stereo and the Bluetooth idea is fantastic, although the speaker quality of a phone call is second to none, but the microphone pick up is not very good at all. Nearly every phone call we have had using it, the person on the other end has said that they can't really here what we are saying, its too muffled. This is maybe because the mic is set inside the stereo and is completly covered by the front panel. If there is any way the mic could have been part of the front panel, i think it would be much clearer.

I also bought this for my partner, before she gets banned, or kills someone talking on her phone. The Unit is really easy to fit and came with all the wiring adapters to plug straight into her punto, and get up and running in 10 mins! The unit connects seemlessly to both our nokia handsets, and is really excellent, the quality of sound through the speakers is great, and the on board mic does a superb job, with good speech quality, even at motorway speeds. I initially wanted the unit as my Nokia has the ability to stream audio via bluetooth and i use it for all my music. (2gb of MP4) However not sure if it is just this unit, or the bandwidth allowed by bluetooth, but the quality of the sound when streaming is not so good. Not the end of the world though, as plugging the phone in via the aux input means the sound quality is great again.
The Unit plays MP3 discs effortlessly, with surprisingly good sound quality, and the FM tuner is also very good.
At the price i paid for this unit it is worth it for the quality of the hands free alone.
It also comes with a full remote which i will have to keep secret from the kids.

Its a great in car stereo unit if your someone who values having a hands-free kit in their car. Penalties seem to be always increasing for using your mobile phone handset whilst driving. This Sony radio offers a great solution as it has a built in bluetooth handsfree feature which is very easy to use and your phone calls sound very clear as they come out through the car speakers. I bought this as part of a Ford stereo upgrade kit which included conversion leads and facia adaptor. There were others stereos with the upgrade kit but I wanted a Sony. They seem to have a good build quality, reliability, longevity and this particular unit has several features I really wanted.

The bluetooth works brilliantly both for streaming and telephone. I am not a tekkie but the bluetooth pairing is very sraight forward, as are all the controls. I have been told it sounds a bit tinny by people I've been talking to, although never to the point of not being able to hear clearly, but the incoming calls sound excellent.It's great when a call comes in, answer from the stereo itself and you can talk and hear without the discomfort and botheration of a headset. I have paired my phone to automatically connect to the stereo so it's as simple as putting on the face panel on.

Sound quality is alright, as I said it's part of an upgrade, so it's connected to the ford speakers in my van. I use it mainly for listening to lectures and as there is a "voice" option on the equalizer it sounds clear and doesn't need to be too loud even on a motorway with the road noise. The best feature for me is that the player always restarts from the place on the disc it was stopped, whether other sources are used (e.g.radio), the engine is turned off, or a call comes in. Maybe not important for every one but as I said I'm using it mainly for lectures. It plays all the mp3 discs I have tried except one, not sure why. Haven't tried the auxillary plug but a usb would have been more usefull for me. One other negative, the display has a dimmer button but this only dims the lcd panel. The rather bright blue back light seems to be on all the time. Not really a big problem and would probably not bother most people but it is a bit much for me at night.

All in all I am very happy with this peice of kit and would recommend it to any one. Definately worth shopping around as the prices vary quite a bit.

bought this because i needed a new stereo and i wanted bluetooth handsfree in my car. im very impressed with it, the bluetooth is excellent it connects automatically to your phone as soon as you get in the car and the speaker is good with the voice clarity good also. sound is also excellent as it is 52x4 watts. overall an excellent buy!!!

I bought one of these so that my wife could use her mobile phone in her car safely, and also be able to bluetooth her songs to the unit as well. It works perfectly. The mobile phone must be compatible with the stereo bluetooth standards to be able to play your music via the phone, but you can use any bluetooth phone to use the hands free function. It will also play mp3 files that can be written to disc, and also has a 3.5mm socket for your mp3 player. Great bit of kit for the money with good sound and power output. I always trust products fron Sony and I am not disappointed this time.

The Bluetooth connection on this stereo is great and only took a minute to set up with my phone (Samsung SGH-D600..i know it's a bit old!). The sound quality is pretty good too when playing music (various EQ settings), and when a call comes in it all stops then carries on where it left off when your done talking....excellent!
It's probably a good idea to plug your phone in to it's in-car charger while in Bluetooth mode though, as it takes a fair whack out of your battery on a long trip.
I bought this stereo because it just made sense safety-wise with the new laws and penalties that have come in as far as using a mobile on the move is concerned. It's also a Sony which my previous stereo was (still working perfectly in my Dads car) and plays all the audio formats i want it to, as well as having a handy aux-in socket on the front for an iPOD.
