The people who talk about fakes are right.
If you buy these headphones at a cheap price, say less than 25euros, they're very likely to be fake. I bought fake ones (not knowing), and did not regret it that much, the sound quality is pretty good. But I think it might be random, all fakes will have different quality, as there is no real quality control. Very litlle details indicate that they are fake, the Sony logo is not wide enough and shouldn't appear on the side of the headphones, instead the walkman logo should be there...
Little details that don't matter much, BUT I don't want to encourage counterfeiters, if you read this, please don't be a cheapo, like I was, and buy real ones, you are guaranteed to get quality in every aspect.
Apart from that, the great thing, to me, about these headphones is that they just stay in your ears without you needing to adjust them every 2 or 3 minutes, they're very stable even if you run with them...
I also own the EX85 ( real ones), I must say, I can't hear the difference, had I known that I would have bought them instead.

  MDR-EX90LP earbud style headphones.
Review created: 13/03/08(updated 20/03/08)

No true bad points to these headphones.
The jack is gold plated = good.
The jack is moulded very low profile 90 degrees = good.
The cable is ruberised so very flexible = good.
Left lead is longer than the right for wrapping around back of the neck, adjustable = good.
Silver earbud housing is plastic, looks nice although protrudes out of the ear = still good.
Selection of different sized rubber buds supplied = good.

Sound quality is simply amazing for its size. Its like being sat right between two top quality speakers, no joke.

The one thing i worry about is catching the cable on something. Although the join from the cable to the earbud housing has a 3/4 inch long gromet, it isnt actually attached and you can pull the gromet out with some minor force.

Even though the ones i bought have a slightly lower output on one channel, i can safely say these are pretty impressive earbuds.
Excelent.

  Sony headphones - fake?

When these arrived they appear as neat cool looking headphones. The design is an in ear style and although a little unusual they turned on to be quite comfortable. I connected them up to my sony MP3 player and the sound was terrible it was like listening to music underwater. The cheaper Sony earphones that came with the MP3 player were far superior. Now either expensive Sony headphones are rubbish or these were fakes. The seller refunded the cost and didn't even want them returned.

Now perhaps this isn't a true review of Sony quality but it is a warning for those buying this type of headphone. BE Careful!

  Sony MDR- EX90's

The sony EX90's have great bass which suit certain types of music such as dance but the bass can be so strong at times which can compromise the highs and mids. The build quality is good but the actuall wires of the earphones seem to be made of some sort of poor flimsy rubber which can tear easily, poor considering its from sony. I shortly after bought a pair of Shure E2C's which i think has superb treble with clear highs and mids that can be heard perfectly, it also has great bass with a better balance so it doesn't compromise the voice quality. In my opinion Shure are the best in terms of sound but cost consideribly more so the sony's are a decent alternative.

If you love your ears.......you'll steer well clear!!!

When Ebay sent me an email asking me to review these earphones, I thought why on earth not! As a very proud owner of a new mp3 player, I decided to treat myself to a set of these headphones. Now I will stipulate that the set I have bought are fakes.....this was only brought to my attention after I listened to them for a few times and realised what poor quality they are....but a major flaw was brought to my attention. Here we are, quite literally "stuffing" earphones further down our drums........yes the music might get a little deeper into the ear.....but what about the long term damage we are doing?? I hate to sound old and like a party pooper but I do feel that these earphones, genuine or fake could be a real hazard to your health. I developed severe earache within a few times of wearing these so they have ended up in the bin. I love Sony and other than this product I have enjoyed everything they have produced (from the play station to 1 of their 1st walkmans, wow, i thought i was ace way back in the day walking down the street chopping and changing my tapes!)
I'm finally going to shut up now......all I wanted to say is think twice about these....espcially if the seller is from Japan/China!There are plenty of fantastic headphones out there that dont block/hurt your ears

The sound is excellent, the leads do tend to get tangled up but all personal headphones suffer from this problem.

  Sony headphones

Cost was an obvious factor and the seller’s feedback. I wasn't deterred by the fact the sale was abroad however, the item wasn’t sealed in a Sony pack.

MDR-EX90LP headphones will rock your world

If you are serious about your music and insist on the clearest, most crisp sound you can get no matter where you are hten these compact, in ear headphones are for you. The quality of the sound and base response is excellent for this size of headphone and even though they are not 'external noise cancelling' headphones, they do a damn good job at blocking out all of that unwanted sound from any environment you might be in. I use them on the london underground everyday and believe me it gets noisey down there in rush our but with the MDR-EX90LP's it is as if everything around me was on mute and I was allowed to listen to my soundtrack uninterupted. They are also very easy to use and stay in the ear without any issue unlike some of their earlier predecessors. They even come with a compact real leather pouch which keeps them organised and in perfect working condition when you are travelling.
In summary; if you are into your music, like being able to hear every instrument, every beat without interuption then these are for you. They can carry a rather large price but compared to some of their competitors I think it is very reasnoble and well worth the investment.
