Sony DVP-NS76H DVD Player

Great DVD Player, picture is great have hooked it up to my Sony HD LCD, you can really notice the upscaling. Easy set up and the machine is very slim and looks good.

I choose this due to it's status as a Which best buy. Despite Sony listing it on their website it seems to have been discontinued. I presume this is due to the newer NS78H which upscales to 1080p, rather than the 1080i of this unit. Operation is very simple (better than the Toshiba and Denon players I have previously owed).

You will find that these units fetch quite a high price here due to their popularity, so don't expect a bargain compared to the price new. In terms of performance however, they are a bargain.

Upscaling to my HD TV at 720p (Sony KDL- D3000 32") worked much better than I expected, although in some darker scenes horizontal lines became visible. I presume this was an artefact of the upscaling. Watching Lost Series 3 brought out the best in this unit. This may be due to lots of scenes with plenty of light.

It is worth noting that the 1080p version I mentioned (NS78H) was not so well received by the Which reviewers.

Once upon a time, I thought branded products was to expensive, and you could get as good quality in cheap brands, yet recently Ive upgraded to sony products and was looking to replace my old cheap unbranded DVD player to make everything home cinema "SONY" now I have Sony Amp, 5.1 Speakers, TV & DVD Player, Im so impressed with the quality of this DVD player. The picture quality is superb, impressive, sharp and well detailed, with options for cinema enchancements to, the options menu as so much to offer from HDMI to Scart etc, it as a quick setup up feature which I was highly imprssed with, step by step it asks you what optional equipment you have set to the DVD, such as amp, type of tv, digital sound etc, and tweaks all the best settings for you, yet the custom feature can allow you to set and tweak your own video and audio settings, I was discovered I was able to use my sony amplifier remote with this DVD player, which is great if you have a sony amp, the DVD offers divx support, and more, the only (tiny) drawback to this DVD player is that its loud when spinning the DVD, but this is soon overcome when you are immersed in 5.1 surround sound. this DVD player is a MUST!!! and I highly reccomend it, and have discovered why "SONY" are simply the BEST when its come to Home Entertainment, I realise now that branded products have far much more to offer than cheaper & unbranded products, and I will stay and shop for "SONY" for many years to come. if you are thinking of buying this DVD player then buy it, but it today.

Great player, the upscaling is fantastic, who needs a pricey HD or Blu ray, give this a whirl. I haven't found a CDR or DVDR it won't play yet, plays Divx, easy to use menu system, not a bad price either and easy to make region free......
