I had this camera for Christmas 2006 (£170 on-line from Pixmania) and so far have been very impressed, especially with the 7.2 Mega Pixels ! My last camera was 3.2 and boy can you tell the difference.
Once you've read the instructions a couple of times and had a practise it becomes quite easy to use. Very good for low light settings with it's ISO 1000 top setting (Although some picture noise results). It has a 3x zoom lens equivalent to 38-114mm in 35mm terms. Not many manual controls as you would expect from a compact but it has many auto and scene functions (Snow, twilight, beach etc). The large 2.5" screen makes using the camera much easier and the optical viewfinder comes in useful when it's too bright to see the screen (Now quite rare on compacts)
Only two things to moan about really, one it doesn't come with a case and two you have to connect the cable that comes with the camera to download pics to your PC, I'd prefer a normal USB cable.
All in all very impressed, decent features and not too expensive, you can't go far wrong here.
UPDATE : Camera developed a fault with the zoom button and I found to my horror that nowhere is interested in fixing even the smallest problem, Jessops wanted £175, that's £5 more than the camera cost and Sony want well over £100 up front with no guarantee of fixing it ! In the end I downloaded a manual and fixed it myself for £3.
I don't think this is peculiar to Sony cameras but all compacts so beware !

This is a great camera I definatly recommend it, it takes excellent sharp pictures most of the time pictures can be noisy occsionly usully in poor light but most compacts do. It has a lot of features for a point and shoot camera, I read up a lot on compact cameras and this is the best of the lot,
very little noise distortion very sharp pictures, and can zoom in on them on the camera once the pic is taken and picks up lots of detail,
movie mode is excellent I was shocked at quality of it it as good as video camera and downloads quick to pc via usb,
its very compact about 0.9 inch thick has a 2.5 inch screen is very compact to carry it around which is why i bought it, its easy to upload picks to pc loads them straight to a saved file so handy, the standerd memory built in is 20 pics at full 7.2 mega pixels thats great compared to theres,
the battery last ages which is great and feels very well constructed durable im so impressed with this camera great value for money and this (w-70) has more features than the w-100 strange but true, id save your money and get this w-70 the w-55 is good too which can be bought in t*scos etc for 160, but id source ex shop display ones as i did of ebay there as new just be on display, they do pop up at great price mine sas new with warrenty for only 110 of hitchen deals several others have had buy it nows too,
also the screen scratches easily on this camera so have to be careful its in its case and not leave it face side down on surfaces
sorry if this is a bit mish mashed i just wanted to get down all the things i thought is good about the camera hope it helps im sure you wont regret buying one, there much better than competition, i.e nikon and samsung, the fuji film f5 is a close second though

Sony Cyber-shot DCS-W70
) I had a W50 model as a present, unfortunately, it suffered water damage whislt on holiday. Considering the cost of repairing or claiming on insurance, the W70 on Ebay was much better value. It was an uprated model and I was still able to use all the accessories I had with the W50. The W70 is a very compedent camera and I have used it many times since purchasing it. A sound camera and a great deal!

Great little camera and easy to use. Very small and compact. Good quality picture and hard to fault. Bought it for a bargain £57 here on ebay so great value for a camera in new condition.

Despite having only 7.1 megapixels to its name, this cyber shot (with the Carl Zeiss lens) is a truly great camera. For the simple holiday snaps, it is great for picture quality, and because it has ben pretty much phased out, you can pick up a second hand one for much less than the newer models. The only downside to the camera seems to be the layout of options on the display. It is possible to learn, but sometimes confusing. Also, the camera has excellent video quality and sound. Brilliant camera.

I decided to buy this camera for my partner as we already have one exactly the same that I've used for the last 12 months. It is compact, reliable, easy to use and for an extremely affordable price. We are both extremely pleased with our purchase.

Have owned this camera for just over 12 months and its performance has been excellent - images under most conditions have been crisp and clean and have produced excellent A4 prints; even the video results have been impressive!
The LCD screen has recently, however, begun to fail in giving a broad magenta band originating from the brightest light source through the lens. This band is so intense that it renders the screen unusable, although there is a fallback to the optical viewfinder. Stored images remain fine. Web searches show few other incidents, and although my dealer's response has been poor,despite a 3 year warranty, Sony have so far been helpful.
Don't let this put you off the camera, I'd still recommend it; just check for screen problems starting.

I have been looking for a good camera for a while now, and I finally found it to be the Sony Cybershot 7.2mpxl digicam. its excellent in its quality, its new but not used and it sure does keep up to its word. I paid 92 something for the camera alongwith postage on Ebay and trust me, it was worth every penny. The same camera outside would have cost me an arm and a leg. I loved almost everything about it, although one minus point I felt was that it did not have a guarantee, which means that the cam is either old or the seller lost the guarantee card. Anyhow, that means if it needs any sort of repair, I would have to shake my wallet out. Still, with a 1GB memory card thrown in for free, the deal is perfect and so worth it. For new buyers on Ebay. This is the place.

This camera is worth the money. It has a small form factor and is quite thin, however not as thin as the Sony CyberShot "T" series but is thin for it's size. The camera's interface is simple to use and understand and it boasts 7.2 megapixels. The item comes boxed with all the standard accessories: manual, CD, lanyard, a battery charger, the battery, a PC/Video In USB connector cable, as well as the camera of course.
The one thing that I don't like about the W70 but isn't affecting me too much is the battery. The standard battery life states that it can last for 300 shots which is sufficient, however I would still recommend to buy a spare battery along with a pouch/case for it as well as a large Memory Stick for your pictures. The camera has an internal memory of approximately 16MB but is obviously not enough. Overall, I still think that the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W70 is a definite buy and a great camera for all.
