A FUNNY STORY ABOUT A 3 YOUNG BROTHERS GROWING UP IN GANGLAND GLASGOW. THE STORY REVOLOVES AROUND LEX THE YOUNGEST OF THE BROTHERS AS HE GETS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF MALKY (KEVIN MCKIDD) WHO JUST HAPPENS TO BE LEADER OF THE NOTORIUS GOVAN TONGS GANG. THIS FILM DIDN'T ACHIEVE THE SAME POPULARITY OF TRAINSPOTTING BUT NEVERTHELESS IS AN ENTHRALLING FILM WITH A FEW LAUGHS AND SOME VIOLENCE ALONG THE WAY. A MUST SEE FOR ANYONE WITH SCOTTISH ROOTS THAT CAN RELATE TO THE GANGLAND CULTURE SCOTLAND HAD MANY YEARS AGO.
A fantastic insite into the lives of three completely different brothers, being raised by their mother. One is young, one artistic and the other disturbed. The film shows how they become involved in the gangland scene of Glasgow's southside, the different characters they comes across and the effect this has on all of their lives. An unusually realistic look at Glasgow of that era. Wonderfully acted, scripted and directed.
This is an overlooked gem of a film. An early outing for the actor Kevin McKidd, as the brilliantly cast thug 'Malky', the leader of the 'Tongs'. The film shows the waring gangs in Glasgow, and how a boy is drawn into their 'troubles', when he accidently shoots mad Malky. Although there are scenes of violence, this film is far more than a gangland story. It's a very rich and subtle film about loss of innocence, the effects of enviroment, family and the struggle of the main character Lex, to survive. This is an 'Independant' style film, with beautiful and unusual shots (look out for the elephant), but it has humour, and a good story to keep everyone hooked.
