THIS IS A GOOD CD. ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK, GOOD TUNES FULL OF LIFE. I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM BECAUSE I LIKED THE SINGIN IN THE RAIN TRACK AND THOUGHT IF A GROUP CAN CREATE THAT HIGH STANDARD OF MUSIC THEN OTHER TRACKS HAD TO BE GOOD. I WASN'T DISAPPIONTED. A FRESH, ORIGINAL, WELL PUT TOGETHER ALBUM.
i brought this on the back of loving the singing in the rain remix, so iitially thats all i played then i tried the other songs and to start with i wasnt keen i was expecting something dancier, however after a few plays it has grown on me its quite chilled out perhaps described as easy listening with an edge.
This disc is going to be in demand when vocalist Duffy hits the big time this year. Only 2 tracks from her but nice to hear something a little different from her current style.
Bought it on the back of a song I heard on the VW Golf advert. Basically you can tell they are primarily remixers - there are a couple of jems on the album, and while the rest of the songs are not offensive to the ear they dont really go anywhere.
If you can get it cheap I'd buy it just for those two great songs.
Mint Royale showed up on the scene on the back of some very well respected and critically acclaimed remixes at the end of the 90s. With their first album they brought big beats to honky tonks pianos and won many fans. With this, their third album, Mint Royale have lost an original member but forged a sound unlike any other heard anywhere.
The big beats are now backed by whhistful, sonic and lush soundscapes that bring a joy to the ears.
Neil Claxton, co founder, clearly has an ear for a melody and this album does not disappoint. Singin in the rain, although an excellent song, sounds tagged onto this beautiful album (i'm led to believe it wasnt to be included originally) as the rest of the songs are lush melodies that you want to dance and cry to at the same time!
I bought this on the strength of "Singin' In The Rain," but also because I like Mint Royale's previous stuff, especially "Don't Falter," which is a special song for me and my lady (aren't we poppy!). There are some great tunes on this album, especially the title track, but it is one of those rare CDs I can just put on and listen to the whole way through without at least once feeling the urge to skip a track. Great summer listening.
