The world’s best Heavy Metal band and one of the world’s best Orchestras in the world combine to make a true masterpiece! Even if you are not a Metallica fan it is and amazing display of classical music and heavy metal. Also you will not believe it is a recording of a live performance in concert. This is a must for any CD collection, and any Metallica fan!
A small piece of history for you, the idea came from the original version of Nothing Else Matters, where Michel Kamen scored the classical parts for Nothing Else Matters. Then at a award ceremony Michel was amazed by a live performance of Metallica and made a point to see the band after, where he suggested them do a whole concert with an orchestra, a long 8 years later they decided to do that very thing, giving birth to METALLICA & SYMPTHANY a.k.a S&M
Bought for my boyfriend who is huge Metallica fan. The music on this cd is not the normal kind of heavy metal you would associate with the band, it is a mixture of heavy metal and classical- no i don't mean Beethoven, etc. If you are a true Metallica fan this is a must have cd, it shows you what a heavy metal band can do when it teams up with an orchestra that spends most of its time playing the classics- this time i do mean Beethoven, etc. If you close your eyes whilst listening to this cd(if you can do that!!) you can picture the band on stage performing, and the fans below going mad. I don't suppose they mind what music is being played- its Metallica. As stated, its a must have cd, if you don't have it- go buy it, you won't be disappointed.
from the beautiful "ecstacy of gold" intro to a crushing "battery" this is a superb cd ,the orchestra brings real depth to the songs, the hair tingling start to "one" the almost bond like "no leaf clover" (would fit any film soundtrack),anyway dont take my word for it, do yourself a favour get this cd , sit back and enjoy. i bought this cd because of the filmed concert dvd of the same name, the only fault i found with it was that a lot of james hetfield/crowd interaction is cut out.its still a "minter"
Metallica rock anyway, but with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra behind them this live album takes on epic proportions. From the orchestral openings of 'Extacy of Gold' to the 'old skool 'tallica' classic 'Battery' this double album is best listened to loud and on a good stereo system to appreciate the fusing of heavy metal and epic orchestral arrangements. The only thing I disliked about it is that they never toured the show in the UK, I would have sold my soul to see that show!
Such a fantastic joining of the heaviest rock music and the compliment of the more atmospheric and powerful melody of a symphony...heaven! All such excellent musicians...an amazing creation!
I never was really in love with Metallica - not my kind of music. But my brother loves it. I was having problems with Christmas gift and than it suddenly came to me. I desided stright away to get this CD. It has fantastic original box. Definitely good price. When I've listened to this CD I decided to leave it for myself. Perfect sound. Beautiful music.
Bought this more out of curiosity than just a pure blind fan purchase. Got everything else and seen them a squillion times too so i was open to what might come out of this package. Pretentiousness, faux sophistication whatever else? Well yes, both. Some of it is over orchestrated in a kind of 'for the sake of the collaboration' type way but some of it actually works and works rather well. 'Nothing Else Matters' is a standout but even some of the doomier tracks are enhanced by Michael Kamen's orchestrations. You will either love or hate this or treat is with complete scepticism but I was surprised I actually liked more of it than I disliked. It's interesting.
It's nothing like my Beethoven, Schubert or Tchaikovsky collections but it's interesting...
Once you experience this album you will probably be surprised at how well it works, i know i was, bringing one of the heaviest metal bands to a concert hall to play along with a full blown professional orchestra is quite an interesting concept, and it definately works. If you get the chance to experience the DVD on a surround sound system i would highly recommend it, Memory Remains gave me chills watching the DVD on a cinema-sized screen with 5.1 surround sound when the crowd singalong to the intro...and with 2 new songs No Leaf Clover and Human (Or Minus Human) the album simply rocks.
This is an AWESOME CD and probably one of the best CDs ever cut. its got the most amazing metal band ever (who actually have musical sense)collaborating with an amazing symphony orchestra who are just adding to the pre-defined awesomeness of the songs. This is a must have amazingly goo CD and this is coming from the point of view of a musician who hates stuff that he thinks is too simple. I love it.
