I bought this album when it was released on vinyl back in 1974 and loved it then, it started a long term love of Rush and their individual style of music and live shows.
The music was so different to anything else I had heard at the time but unfortunately vinyl is not the most transferrable media so I have been trying to recreate my vinyl collection digitally for some time and eventually found a supplier who sold remastered versions that actually played well and lasted. This album, one of the later Rush albums I bought, is not as progressive as nearly all the others, which is unsurprising considering Neil Peart had yet to join the band. This makes for a CD that is less grandiose and makes it very fun to listen to, even if the lyrics leave something to be desired. Standout tracks: Here Again, Working Man, Before And After.
Although the sound isn't quite as polished as on later albums, this debut is a great set of songs, my favourites would have to be "What You're Doing", "In The Mood" and "The Working Man".
After hearing a few of their other albums, I decided to buy the first, and I can tell you i'm not in the slightest dissapointed with it.
