Everyone's favourite screen couple...Richard Gere and Julia Roberts matched in another runaway hit comedy from Garry Marshall-the director of Pretty Woman.
Ike Graham (Gere) is a big-city newspaper columnist who causes an uproar with an unflattering and wildly erroneous story about Maggie Carpenter (Roberts), a small town woman whose reputation for leaving men stranded at the alter has made her a local legend! But while Ike plans to prove he was right about Maggie all along...and Maggie plans to even the score with Ike...neither expects the kind of sparks that fly when they finally meet!
Also featuring memorably funny performances from Joan Cusack, Hector Elizondo (Pretty Woman) and Rita Wilson (sleepless in Seattle)-anyone who loves laughter should say " I Do" to this delightfully engaing romantic comedy!
It's good, but lacks the magic that Pretty Woman had. Definatly lacks the re-watchablity factor, but a good movie to watch for a girl's night in.
You'll be disappointed if you think this will have the same chemistry as Pretty Woman but its still nice to see Richard and Julia back together. Quite lighthearted and easy to watch with a funny if not cheesy storyline. I didn't hate it but it didnt make me want to spread the word. Not bad for a chick flick.
I have not actually as yet watched this DVD, but i am sure will enjoy it when i do view this DVD, my decision to buy this DVD was its extremely good price.
Richard Gere plays Ike Graham a disgruntled Male Chauvinist New York columnist desperate for the story to revive his career. When a friend at a bar tells him the story of Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts), a woman who always flees from looming weddings leaving her grooms standing at the altar. Ike takes the opportunity to write a very biased story about Maggie without fully researching the subject. However the next day Ike gets fired for faking facts, resulting in Ike's only way to get his job back being to write a proper fact-based report on Maggie. But after reading his libelous work, Maggie is none too keen to co-operate.
Maggie is due to be married again, and the whole town including Ike is waiting baited breathed as to what she will do.....will she run?
This movie is the result of Richard Gere and Julia Roberts being reunited after the smash hit of Pretty Woman. In general comedy duos on screen that are recreated in a later movie never seem to get the same chemistry, this could be because our expectations have been raised so much by the initial success, But i feel this movie is good in it's own right.
A nice romantic comedy to relax on a night in with! Recommended.
