After purchasing their first album around a month ago, i was eager to purchase the second Strokes installment and i am pleased to say that it was a great buy.
The album tracks on this record are much better than 'Is This It' with 'Automatic Stop', 'Meet Me In The Bathroom' and 'The Way It Is' being the pick of the bunch. The album opens up great with 'What Ever Happened?' and 'Between Love and Hate' is also a decent track. On top of the good three released singles 'Reptilia', '12:51', and 'The End Has No End', there are 'Under Control', 'I Can't Win' and 'You Talk Way Too Much', these three are probably the only average songs on the album but are still very listenable when playing the record all the way through.
Overall a great purchase for any Strokes fan or if you were like me just wanting to see what the Strokes were all about, this is a great follow up to Is This It. I shall be purchasing their third album 'First Impressions of Earth' very shortly!
Great CD and amazing sophomore effort from the best band from NYC in decades. All songs are extremely catchy in the following line up:
1. What Ever Happened 2. Reptilia 3. Automatic Stop 4. 12.51 5. You Talk Way To Much 6. Between Love And Hate 7. Meet Me In The Bathroom 8. Under Control 9. End Has No End 10. Way It Is 11. I Can't Win
Bringing out a second album, with the aim to better your debut album seems an obvious thing to do... And that is exactly what The Strokes have attempted, and in Most ways succeeded.
This album has the flair of "Is this it" (their debut album), with a little more thrown in just to be sure. The album is full of catchy riffs and rhythms, and the songs "12:51" and "reptilia" are great examples.
I find that the only problem with this album (for myself atleast), is that at first, the songs seem similar. But after listening to the album a few times through this problem was fixed and I managed to see into the songs and see the musical talent that is, The Strokes.
An album well worth the money, if you like this kind of music.
