Great series carring on from the first, telling the adventures of Vrinus and Pullo as they rampage through the pages of history from The Aventine in Rome to Queen Cleopatras Eygpt. Well worth a watch, the only trouble is once you have watched one episode you won't be able to wait for the nnext till youv'e watched the lot.

Rome Season TwoSet in the the year 44BC, season 2 starts directly where season 1 left off. Julius Caesar has been assassinated and civil war threatens the Republic. The power struggle sees Mark Antony pitched against Octavian, the appointed heir of of Caesar.
Brutus seeks favour from both Senators and citizens after being declared a murderer.
Servilia continues to plot, Atia continues to be thoroughly evil, and both Lucius and Titus experince no-end of personal tragedies, inexorably linked to the fate of Rome.
Five discs, 568 entertaining minutes long, certificate 18 for very good reasons!

I caught most of series one on TV, and thought it was excellent. I now don't have Sky, so I bought this. I was captivated.
This is a series which doesn't pretend to be anything other than a drama, but it is very heavily based on well researched fact. At school we heard about the emperors, we visited Colchester and Hadrian's Wall and we possibly even got a grade c o-level. However, you don't find out about the lives of the less well known and the ordinary people who were part of the history just as much as the nobility. This series makes up for that.
Showing all strata of Roman society, it neatly brings it all together for the viewer. For those that like to know a bit more about what is going on, there are the additional features. More than anything, this has made me pop in to Waterstones to buy books and learn more. You don't have to, you can just sit back and enjoy.
It is rated at 18. For those below 18, who want to know what they are missing, the rude bits aren't bad, but you'll see more on the preview bits on the rude channels. For the fighting, pretty gruesome, and you wouldn't want to cross any of the Romans, who seem to be well hard. However it isn't as violent as Saving Private Ryan.
Treat yourself, buy this, but don't lend it to your granny.

The first series of Rome offered everything a viewer could want: drama, intrigue, romance, revenge, lust, betrayal and everything else in between. It was filled with highs and lows, twists and turns and a number of unexpected moments.
The second series picks up immediately after the events of the first series: Caesar is dead and the city of Rome is in mourning, Lucius Vorenus is struggling to cope with a terrible loss in his family; Atia and her family are faced with the prospect of leaving the city following the loss of Caesar while Mark Antony encounters Cleopatra once again.
The performances from the cast as whole are nothing short of excellent and are vital to the plot, which is often complicated and as usual, dripping with subtext. Polly Walker is once again terrific as Atia, Caeser's niece, who is always scheming to ensure the survival of herself and her children. However, her son - whose role is now played by an older actor - soon demonstrates a change in composure and plans to follow in his uncle's footsteps to become leader of Rome.
The sets and costumes are stunning as is the art direction - at a cost of $100,000,000 - which sees entire buildings reconstructed as they were at the time. Various parts of the series were filmed on location in Rome, which only helps add to the realism.
The second series of Rome is an amazing follow-up to the first one and is a must see for any dedicated fan as well as anyone who loves television drama or HBO series.

This series just got better, I thought the first season was fantastic but the second is even better. You get to lika all the characters even the evil ones.
I recocmend it completely but make sure you buy the first season too as that is also excellent I near enough watched it for two days solid.

Fantastic follow on period drama post Caesar's infamous slaughter. If you saw the first series you'll be aware this is not for veiwing with the kids about. Plenty of lust and gore as well as a great story of intrigue and deception courtesy of Marc Anthony and Cleopatra. A real plus I find in sequels is that all the original cast remain. A great mixture of battles and love stories entwined. Enjoy!

Having originally watched both series on television, it was a delight to be able to see it again on DVD. This is a gripping drama and there are some powerful performances from the actors. The action keeps you glued to the screen. This programme does contain sex, swearing and violence and some may consider that it is unsuitable for young children. The story line is excellent and if you like roman history, then you will enjoy this set of DVD's.

If you purchased the first Rome 1 You have just got to get hold of the second series.
This 2nd set is a continuation of the first series, with all the gore, sex, and wicked interwoven story lines of the first.
Brilliantly acted by all the cast AGAIN THIS IS A MUST HAVE.
Check your Ebay regular and grab yourself a bargain.

I absolutely love this series although I feel the first series was slightly better. As this is the conclusion it winds up alot of the events and we see the demise of many of the characters we got to know in the first series. The Roman detail is fantastic and the sets and costumes are up to movie standards once again. A great series for anyone interested in excellent drama, acting or ancient Rome itself.
