This is a wicked film if you like things slightly bizzare and off kilter. Once you get used to the olde fashioned language it really is a cracking little story. The whole idea of using an old play and setting it in a slightly odd modern/futuristic (a la Romeo and juliet) works in this film when it should be a disaster! the performances are not the best in the world but thats forgivable because it seams to add something to the film. Worth a watch even if just so you can go WHAT thru out.
LOVE this film! Christopher Eccelston and Eddie Izzard both give strong perfomances as their characters. The story is of Love, Loss, Jealousy and of course Revenge! The plot is easy to follow (in a Shakespearean way!) and their is plenty of humour and entertainment throughout the film.
i first discovered the merit of this film when i watched it as part of an english lit lesson. the brilliant mix of a post-apocalyptic liverpool and the seventeenth century dialogue increased the films potency. the controversial scenes of violence and incestuous sex are horrific but relevant to the film, the humour element of the film is rather dark. i love this film and would recommend it to anyone, whether they are studying revenge tragedy or not. Christopher Eccleston has certainly found his niche in this film and a younger Mark Warren proves his talents.
