Didn't get into these until late 90's - so missed out on this one until I heard Bob Harris play a track on his Saturday show. Well up to their normal standard and you can now pick it up at a bargain price.
I was introduced to Counting Crows by a friend in the early 90's via August And Everything After. I loved the way the lyrics told stories, unlike the repetitive lyrics that you often get from other bands. Seeing them live for the first time was an experience unlike any other as Adam (Duritz, lead singer) changed the lyrics around and merged songs into each other. The live performances secured me as a lifelong fan. Of all their albums Recovering The Satellites has to be my favourite. It is the darker, rockier album of them all and I love the energy in it's songs (especially live). Great album, but if you're new to the Crows I would suggest buying 'August' first.
I have owned Crows first album "August and everything after" for ages and play it all the time. Off the back of loving that CD I bought this, their second album. This album has a deeper more rock feel overall, while still including what I see as the trademark haunting, mournful tracks. All the tracks are memorable for the distinctive vocals of Adam Duritz, the while the lyrics are biting don't quite have the same poetic element of the first album. If you liked the first album you'll like this, and shows that the band were not one hit wonders.
Having just seen Counting Crows live in New Jersey,I wanted to aquaint myself better with their brilliant songs. This is their second album released in 1996 and it is brilliant. All tracks are good but if i had to chose my two favourites they would be 'Daylight Fading' and 'A Long December' which I saw the band perform brilliantly to a large outdoor audience at Holmdel,NJ, this I consider a great privilige, and strongly recommend this album and the band.
I bought this album from Ebay on CD as I had owned it ten years ago on cassette (which got chewed!) and I really missed listening to it. An absolute masterpiece of an album by an excellent band.
