Great CD, reminds me of my youth!! There are some fab tracks on the album. The lyrics are in the case so you can sing along. This is the best that U2 have made, in my opinion..
A brilliant album from a great group. Powerful vocals, terrific backing musicians, wonderful selection of songs. Intense atmosphere in live tracks. The best they ever did? Certainly. Music to drive through the night to!
I think that this is a classic album of U2 MY main reason for purchasing it, was to replace my worn out ancient tape that over the years had been played to death! I have slowly been able to replace my vinyl & tape collection to CD. Now I am able to listen to it on my ipod when & where ever I want.
I'm not sure what went on at the record company with this album, but technically it should've been marketed as a soundtrack because the music is from the rockumentary of the same name. Herein is contained a mixture of what were then, new studio recorded songs and older songs recorded live on The Joshua Tree Tour of the USA in 1988.
Because of its varied tracklisting, and its unfortunate placement between the much more groundbreaking "The Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby", "Rattle and Hum" is one of the more overlooked albums in U2's catalogue. At the time, the album and film were derided as self-indulgent by many critics who claimed U2 were trying to enshrine themselves in the great pantheon of rock legends as opposed to honoring its newly-found influences. Many found the project just too serious.
However, the album can be seen as a fine representation of a great band at the height of their artistic powers and popular influence. They are undoubtedly a superb band live, and it's just a shame that the album couldn't have been longer, just to hear the rest of the live songs because what we do hear is so great you want to hear more, or wish you'd been there. Not that is a criticism of the studio tracks which are equally as passionate and as rousing as anything on "The Joshua Tree". I've never seen the film, but this album is certainly worth owning just because you enjoy good music.
Yet another good buy from E-Bay,i had the album years ago and it got damaged so i looked on the site and grabbed it at a bargain price. The album itself is just one of many examples of brilliance that oozes from this band. Mind you i am a massive U2 fan so i am probably being a bit prejudice.
